NASA has photographed an alien building on the surface of the Moon! Hearing news like this certainly makes one sit up and pay attention, but is it is correct?

I heard about this from the Following the Nerd blog which featured a large image of the Moon centred on its South Pole.

The Moon’s southern polar region. (Image credit: US DoD)

The alien edifice is tricky to spot, look to the left of the image and find the East-West meridian. There is a crater almost at the edge of the disc and just above it is a tiny black perfect rectangle. Hmm, an alien artefact in the form of a black monolith on the Moon, how original! The crater is called Boltzmann and is about 75 km wide so the artefact would have to be constructed on a cyclopean scale, at least 20km long.

The mystery “object” (arrowed)  appears to lie partially on the rim of Boltzmann Crater, the larger crater to the right is Drygalski. (Original image credit: US DoD)

Looking for evidence of extraterrestial intelligence preserved on the airless wastes of our satellite is not new and has been proposed numerous times, most recently by the well-known SETI theorist Paul Davies. This image is not new; in fact it is nearly twenty years old as it was made by the Clementine spacecraft during its six month mission to the Moon in 1994. Images like those above are not one off-photographs, instead they are assembled from numerous (hundreds at least) of smaller images. Usually these overlap, but the coverage is not complete and there can be small areas of missing or very low quality data. In this case it was easy to find the original image used in making the larger map.

Alas, it is clear that the alien building is just a block of lower quality data. NASA has NOT photographed an alien building on the Moon. If this does not convince you then there are other images of the same area. You can see a fine panorama of the region made by an amateur observer at Lunar Photo of the Day and the area has recently been imaged by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. You can find Boltzmann at Lat: 74.9°S, Long: 90.7°W in the Act-React Quick Map . Keep zooming in until you are sure there is nothing there!

Here is something else to think about, since when does missing, or low quality data cast a shadow on the surface as theis object does?

Richie · November 24, 2020 at 01:33

I’m just curious, if the large structure at edge odBoltzmann crater is not real, then why has it been obfuscated on Google Moon? They have Cut and pasted something else there, very obvious they are covering this up.

Aliens on the moon. TRUTH

Frank Miller · October 8, 2016 at 04:48

Why do we spend billions of dollars and decades of time looking for anything in space if scientists ,judging by these articles, already know it all ? It will also take several hundred life times to reach any where near a habitable planet. Seems like a waste of resources to me. I can sort of see going to the moon and possibly Mars, maybe , but why anywhere else ?

Dear Frank, thank you for your questions.

Why do we spend billions of dollars and decades of time looking for anything in space if scientists ,judging by these articles, already know it all ?

There is a huge amount we do not know; the Universe is full of surprises! For example, the New Horizons mission to Pluto has revealed that many of our assumptions about Pluto were wrong. No one believes we know it all.

It will also take several hundred life times to reach any where near a habitable planet. Seems like a waste of resources to me.

Agreed, and no one is seriously suggesting it now. Perhaps one day in the far future, a human civilisation will decide that spreading across the Galaxy is a worthy goal and have the resources to try.

Liquid on the Moon?
Found a very intresting moon crater on QuickMap. Unlike others, this looks like having erosion, with some kind of liquid soaking the regolite. Looks rather new, comparing to others craters I have been looking, beacuse its borders are really sharp. Around 2km wide.
Look at QuickMap, dark side, Lat: -17.67817 ; Lon: 144.40388

Any explanation about this formation?

Dear Gustavo, thank you for pointing out this spectacular image. I’m not a geologist, so I cannot really comment authoritatively. I agree it looks fresh but I cannot say water played a part in its formation. I think the darker areas (which I think you are suggesting to be “soaked”) are older material which has slid down the slopes. I’d welcome comments from an expert!

People are so eager to prove alien life exists they will believe anything – it would be far more interesting to discover that we are the only lifeforms in the universe.

People are so eager to find alien life, they will believe anything. It would be more interesting to discover that we are the only mortal life in the Universe.

is life possible on mars?does human being survive on mars ?

Another photo of a possible base on the moon. This is not a natural formation.

    admin · December 15, 2014 at 10:21

Dear Clay, thank you for the link. You are correct to say that this is not a natural formation, it is in fact a reference grid printed on the simulated image (not a photo) of the lunar surface used to locate where the impact occurred. This was confirmed by Anthony Colaprete (the gentleman in the image) to a query emailed to him by a member of the Above Top Secret Forum (link) on 16 March 2012.

Hopefully, the owner of the website you linked to will be able to add this clarification to the page.

Nasa shuttle sts 48 footage 5x normal speed capturing a ufo pop into frame and then dodge a projectile or particle beam, or laser fired at it from earth.
If there is alien life visting us and this isnt a craft from earth, then i dont see why its not possible for them to have bases on planets or moons near us.

    admin · December 15, 2014 at 10:36

Dear Clay, Please read James Oberg’s comments on this movie (link) and see if you still think this shows something extraordinary.

I don’t think any scientists have any problem about accepting the possibility of non-human artifacts elsewhere in the Solar System (I certainly don’t), there is even a link in the article to Paul Davies’ proposal to actively search for such artifacts. The problem is that nothing has yet been found and the same tired old stories being rediscovered every few years.

Ashwin · October 28, 2014 at 14:48

The whole story is that someone is not in the mood to reveal the truth officially about the moon and the mars and Nasa and Seti and other powerful space researchers are using their technologies to become powerful like they are .. and i think the truth is they all know each other very well .

    admin · October 28, 2014 at 15:15

Dear Ashwin, thank you for your comment. Please let me know what you think is the single most convincing piece of evidence for this?

pete · July 21, 2014 at 04:36

all I know is that other life in our universe is real i’ve seen unexplained flying craft so I know life elsewhere if truly real…why our government likes to hide facts just because they may fear mass hysteria ,,paranoia may be the reason why we don’t see more ufo’s I know that paranoid people are usually left alone by others or studied…or made fun of…if there is a moon base made by other life in our universe in the 70’s I may add…lol
its not to attack us but to study us, can they be a threat sure but if they wanted to attack us it would have happened a long time ago like in the 70’s I would suggest and this is just a suggestion we should go up there and check it out..and if they need a test person to go up there ill go…im not paranoid or scared..

Although I’m not sure that dates work out, it’s possible that the building was part of the set for this movie

Enjoy.

Hello, I want to advice you about a new discovery about strange constructions on the moon. Please find it here.

Anyway nice blog!

Scott C. Waring · March 7, 2012 at 15:16

In the second photo you have, NASA used another part of the moon to patch over the building. Oh, I found the building you mention. How can you pass off the second photo as original when it is clear that the building had been covered up by that patch? Please look more carefully and do not mislead the public by saying this photo above with the building is a photo mistake. NASA deliberately covered up the second photo with the building. Why cause the public to fear what out there? They don’t want to scare the public.

    admin · March 7, 2012 at 20:55

Hi Scott, you do understand that we can see this region from the Earth’s surface? (Not terribly well to be sure, but clearly enough to see there isn’t anything there.)

If you are still not convinced why not do your own research? You could examine images from the LRO, SMART-1, Kaguya,Chang’e or Chandrayaan 1 missions, or even buy a telescope and look there for yourself, you won’t find any aliens but you’ll have a great time anyway!

Kirsten Alicia · February 23, 2012 at 17:29

Damn, that’s disappointing. 😉

iamreddave · February 23, 2012 at 11:39

I have always had a sneaky respect for the theory that dinosaurs might have made it to the moon. Or at least that things last so long up there that it is a good place to look for artifacts that something could have left behind a long time ago.
http://www.overcomingbias.com/2008/02/dinos-on-the-mo.html

‘The footprints left by the Apollo astronauts will not erode since there is no wind or water on the Moon. The footprints should last at least 10 million years.’ http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moonglossary/moontrivia.htm which presumably means the moonbuggy and such should last ages up there.
