Maybe you have seen one of the alarming videos or emails circulating around the internet claiming that the End is Nigh. The claim is that an enormous dinosaur-killer of an asteroid is going to smash into the Earth sometime between 15-28 September 2015. The scary predictions say that the asteroid will come down in the Atlantic Ocean near Puerto Rico, causing a “300ft tsunami” and a “Magnitude 12” earthquake which will lay waste to the eastern seaboards of the USA, Mexico and central and southern American nations (European nations will be devastated, specifically Spain, Holland and England, too). Thirty million lives will be lost in the month after the impact, and 40 million more are destined to die from plagues and in civil disorder in the following seven months. Is this terrifying vision of the future going to happen? Unsurprisingly the answer is absolutely no. This prediction is false.
(UPDATE: As nothing happened in September some people are now claiming that an asteroid will impact the Earth in December 2015. This new prediction is also false.)
This prediction is not based on science. No known asteroid or comet is on a collision course with Earth. I am only writing about this nonsensical claim because over the years I have learned that there are people who become genuinely distressed and anxious by false predictions of disaster like this. (If you are very worried by this false story and in live in the UK, why not call AnxietyUK on 08444 775774 to discuss your concerns with a sympathetic listener? Similarly if you live in the USA, there are resources listed on the ADAA website that you may find helpful.)
The claim that this doomsday asteroid is heading our way apparently originated from one Reverend Efrain Rodriguez who has since 2010 promoted in videos and interviews his belief that this forthcoming disaster has been divinely revealed to him. Rodriguez does not claim to have discovered the asteroid or to have calculated its orbit, contending instead that its approach was supernaturally announced to him. He says
“God showed me a large rock, an Asteroid, entering the airspace of the town of Arecibo in Puerto Rico, and exiting Mayagüez, heading to the ocean. This will be at 2am. This rock will be making impact in the sea between the island of Mona and Mayagüez. It will hit an active earthquake fault found in that area of the Caribbean, causing a very strong 12 point earthquake that has never been seen. 12 degrees means the Presence of God on the Earth.“
He sent NASA a letter in November 2012 outlining his bleak view of the future but received no response. I imagine it was filed under “G” for Garbage. Rodriguez says that world governments are aware of the approaching menace but are cynically going to evacuate their leaderships to safety without warning the general populace because a population reduction suits their globalist political agenda. However Rodriguez also disapprovingly says that the USA is planning to try to avert disaster:
“They are preparing spacecrafts to receive and destroy the asteroid upon arrival to Earth. Also, Obama sent about 40 missiles to PR [Puerto Rico], to try to destroy the asteroid in the sky, so that it may fall on Puerto Rico, and not at sea. The prophet of God Efrain warned them not to press the Buttons “Do No do it!” he said. “Do Not interfere with the plans of the Lord.”
In reality, no such spacecraft or missiles exist. His belief that even attempting to save millions of human lives is wrong says much about Rev. Rodriguez and his theology. He seems to preach a grim gospel of despair, offering no future but misery to his congregations.
To be fair to Rodriguez, he seem to have disassociated himself from the September 2015 dates, but these are being promoted by his followers notably someone operating under the name “Light of Mary”. Rodriquez professes that the impact is definitely coming but he cannot say exactly when (except that the impact will occur at 2am and there will be a full Moon in the sky). A lunar eclipse (which is not called a “blood moon”) will be visible over the Americas and western Europe on 28 September 2015 (for more on this amazing spectacle- you should go outside and watch it- see our article The Truth About the Blood Moon Tetrad) and some disaster hoax proponents declare this to be ominous but this is, like all prophesies of doom linked to eclipses, merely superstitious nonsense.
It is significant that Rodriguez has in the past stated precise dates for his apocalypse (in 2013 and 2014) but these have passed by without incident. Rodriguez has also predicted other events, notably the death of one his critics, but none of these have happened either. Rev. Rodriguez is unsure of the disaster’s timing but is certain of its location. According to him Puerto Rico is to be devastated because of its (in his view) uniquely sinful society. In his own words:
“Puerto Rico will be the epicenter of Jehovah’s wrath. The island is polluted with sin, adulterers parade in churches, pastors just want tithes and offerings“
Despite his hopeless message and failed prophesies, Rodriguez has many followers worldwide who have proclaimed him to be a prophet and compare him to Noah and Abraham. Rev. Rodriguez makes no secret of his strong political opinions (he seems to intensely dislike President Obama) which are heavily featured in his proclamations. Thanks to the currently remarkably toxic and irrational political climate in the USA this has meant his views have been even more widely circulated by people who may not believe in his apocalyptic visions but want to promote his paranoid-seeming current affairs agenda.
Among many unusual declarations from Rodriguez are his support for claims that guillotines have been procured for future executions of those who criticise President Obama and that thousands of French, German, Russian and Chinese soldiers are already stationed in Puerto Rico with the intention of seizing control from the local authorities after the disaster (surely if Rodriguez is correct about the impact zone, Puerto Rico would be among the worst places to base this invasion force…) Ridiculous as these may sound, unfortunately thousands of people seem to take these seriously. Deliberately adding to the confusion were other lying emails and YouTube videos alleging that “Jade Helm“, a US military exercise scheduled for 15 July to 15 September 2015, was really a cover for disaster preparations. The military finished and packed up their gear on 15 September without incident.
Of course there is a very, very small chance that in the near future a dangerous impact could occur. Astronomers around the world know of 1593 Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) at the time of writing. This may sound an alarming large number but the criteria to be put on the list is very wide. PHAs are broadly defined as all asteroids 150 m (500 ft) or more in diameter which could come within 0.05 au (about 7.5 million km or 4.65 million miles) of Earth. This distance is about twenty times the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
Objects on the PHA list are monitored and the details of their orbits refined to predict the possibility of close approaches to Earth. One asteroid on the PHA list, 2014 UR116, has been linked by some parties to Rodriguez’s false prediction. Discovered by Russian scientists, asteroid 2014 UR116 poses no impact threat to Earth (or any other planet) for at least the next 150 years.
Other asteroids, 2012 TT5 and 2015 GA14, have been untruthfully named by some websites and newspapers (whose editors should be ashamed of themselves) as possible impacting objects in September 2015. Again these tales are incorrect, on 23 September 2015 GA14 will pass about 0.2 au (1au=93 million miles or 150 million km) of Earth, so it will miss Earth by 30 million km! On 24 September 2015 2012 TT5 will come to about 0.055 au of Earth, so it is going to miss Earth by 5 million miles! During this “close approach” 2012 TT5 will be twenty times further than the Moon from the Earth. Sadly one website which I refuse to link to or publicize has claimed that NASA has marked 2012 TT5 as 6 on the Torino Impact Hazard Scale . This is false, all known objects (as of early September 2015) are rated at o on the Torino Scale (=”the likelihood of a collision is zero, or is so low as to be effectively zero”) .
No comets or asteroids are currently known to be on orbits which will ever cause them to collide with Earth.
Compared with other natural disasters such as earthquakes and severe storms, the hazard from asteroid or comet impacts is small.
Reverend Rodriguez has no known scientific qualifications or connections. His prophesy of disaster is nonsense and appears largely based on his religious and political prejudices. Science has not predicted that a giant asteroid or comet is going to devastate Earth this September. If anyone sends you an email or a link to a video about this foolishness read or watch them if you really want but please do not take them seriously. The people who spread this sort of stuff ought to be ashamed of themselves.
(UPDATE: As nothing happened in September some of the supporters of Reverend Rodriguez are now claiming that an asteroid will impact the Earth in December 2015. Once again this new prediction is false.)

@Admin
I came to this site (Google showed me ^_^) to find some new facts about the dinosaur killer asteroid (I do believe it). I didn’t find what I’m looking for, but at least I found a good site about astronomy.
I’m posting this comment just to show my gratitude, appreciation and support to you for your patience, after I read some comments here. They’re unbelievably ignorant and overzealous, I say, yet you handled them most nicely and most generously. Good job you’ve done here, and thanks a lot for this excellent site.
(Sorry for the English, for I’m not a natural speaker. Cheers ^_^)

Well it’s October and as far as I am concerned, I didn’t notice much that could be linked to an asteroid impact at all and the world is still here. Probably because it didn’t happen??? 😉
Luckily, I don’t buy into these stories, they just sound so ridiculous and illogical to me.
By the way, I have great respect for the admin. Not a lot of people have the ability to remain as respectful and polite as this guy, considering the shier amount of stupid stuff that gets posted here.
But seriously, it’s sad how easily people can be scared by a few people with obviously malicious intents. But I guess that’s just human nature, unfortunately.
(And if anyone wants to question my motives, no I don’t work for any particular government or organisation. In fact I don’t even work at all, since I’m a student. But I still have an interest in astronomy, probably because of all the pretty pictures 🙂

Dear admin. Just a quick question what is your thoughts about asteroid 2015 sv2 that was just discovered days ago? NASA website says it will pass about 1.3 lunar distances but has a condition code of 5. Kind of uncomforting if u ask me
Cam · September 27, 2015 at 20:47
*Correction* the asteroid is named 2015 SZ2
admin · September 28, 2015 at 14:48
Dear Cam, even under the least conservative estimates this asteroid will miss Earth by half a million km. I see nothing to be concerned about.

admin · September 28, 2015 at 08:57
Dear Marie,
Why do you think this could happen? The Moon is often this distance from Earth, last time was in February 2015. Was there a global disaster then?
Sepe · September 26, 2015 at 16:28
Well… I guess we survived the “asteroid Impact” WOOHOO ALL 7 BILLION OF US!
CatGirl · September 25, 2015 at 17:36
Dear people actually worried the world is going to end sometime between Sept 15-28. When you wake up on Sept 29th and see that the world hasn’t ended and an apocalyptic event hasn’t taken place, please make a promise to yourselves to take every “end of times” prediction with a huge grain of salt from now on. The people who claim to know when the world will end, or say they get visions from God about it, are crackpots and nutjobs. Don’t let them influence you. The earth is going to be around for a very long time. The human species may not be as we’re really good at destroying and using up resources we need to survive because we’re an amazing mix of incredibly intelligent and incredibly short-sighted. If the human species disappears, it’ll be because we influenced the environment enough to make it uninhabitable for us. An asteroid won’t kill us; we’ll do it to ourselves by being bad environmental stewards.

the comet pass but what about the blood moon that scarying me
admin · September 25, 2015 at 09:02
Dear Elaine, I must correct you on two points:
No comet passed. Earth was not in danger from any comet (or asteroid) this month.
Lunar eclipses are not called blood moons, this is a name invented in the past few years by people who want to encourage superstitious fear.
As to the lunar eclipse on 28 September, it will be a magnificent sight but that is all.

*shakes head* If people would invest in themselves and gain confidence and education to support a meaningful life in as much as they do about conspiracy theories and Chaos Doomsday and such, society could serve itself much better and we could stop the actual corruption in governments and within corporations. Greed and Crime happen everyday. Our intelligence is the barometer to our survival. Remember they use to Pray to Ra the Sun God. It burned them they were uneducated and lacking understanding so they feared and prayed to it. 12 year olds were pronounced Kings. Fear controls people intelligence guides them, not the Bible. Religion is a fantastic Fellowship model but there is no God. It is easy to have a belief in that to which is not there for that would be the definition of a belief, the unproven. But it is much harder to go out this day and actually do something about the terrible things around us that HUMANS create. So silly. Grown adults acting like children. Humans will probably be wiped out like Dinosaurs because that is Universal Change. Then something else or an adaptation of Humans will come up out of the Earth and live again, if earth survives the event until the Sun becomes and Super Nova and destroys Earth anyway in another 300-500 billion years. So stack your bibles, conspiracy theories in the corner and do something TODAY to stop HUMANS PREYING ON HUMANS. JEEEZ O MAN-kind.
Anything to evade the truth that Humanity is an experiment that we all need to partake in. Fear mongering seems to be a good business, for suckers. Go stop a crook or clean up a bad neighborhood or change corrupt government and fix poverty. NO, we make crap up and start believing in silliness. *rolls eyes*
Thank you Admin for being stoic and reasonable.

I have read through all the articles, it took some time. I am ashamed for my fellow citizens of this planet, so much superstition and paranoia ….even at a time where real information on all the subjects that came up in the posts are so readily available… Why is it that people rather believe superstition, doomsday prophets, and the paranoid ramblings on Loon Tube?
Are people really this insecure or is it simply a lack of education… whatever it is, it is more frightening than the actual prophecy of this lunatic preacher.

I`m reading a lot of what everybody is writing. If something is going to hit the earth or not, There is something that backs it up, the bible. If you open your bible to the 6th seal of Revelations, you can see that at the end of the 6th seal there is a global catastrophe. Yes, according to the text it can be an astroide or supervalcano or something similar. I myself was reveled by God that it`s an astroide. May God be glorified!! His word never fails!!
admin · September 23, 2015 at 08:27
Dear Fabio, you are of course entitled to your belief, but does the Bible actually use the words “asteroid” and “supervolcano”?
Fabio · September 23, 2015 at 15:46
It can be an astroide or supervalcano but I also said something similar because it`s a global scale. It`s not my belief it`s scriptures. If you don`t believe me read it. I don`t need to prove anything to anyone, the words are from Jesus, who wrote them were John his disciple. Believe in Jesus and his words, He is wonderful. I am a testimony of his great power.

this is hogwash..we most definitely would see something the size of a football field..there are millions of amateur astrologists that watch the skies..someone would have seen this coming..remember the NWO is suppose to be taking place. the government is trying to use religion as the tool to bring this about..and make people fear the Armageddon…not saying that catastrophe isn’t imminent..it will most likely be brought about through the hands of mankind himself…they want people to repent and believe the rapture is coming..that’s how they will gain control of the masses…but be cautious all you Christians..this is the false prophet that you have been taught about..this will take you to the wrong path..as for me and my family..we are not associated with religion and it will prove to somewhat harder to manipulate atheist with fear of such garbage…there is an inevitable new plan for mankind that will include decreasing the population..they are trying to control, an out-of-control growth and disobedience…they are trying to regain the power that government once had over the masses…it will be nothing short of genocide, and the survival of the fittest will most likely move forward…but i seriously doubt that this has anything to do with a God or any religious sector..these are governments creating a new way of life that i am sure we will all despise..it wont be for the masses..it will be for the governing body and the elite and those that survive the dirty little wars and plagues.

Firstly; I rarely believe most of what NASA claims. I guarantee that “NO” globalist political agenda, One World Order scheme, or Multinational global media outlet will be able to hide that which is written in the Apocalypse Chapter 8 concerning “Wormwood” hurled into the sea. When it does arrive everyone will know and no human science in all their mighty glorified sophistication will proudly claim they see it coming. As for modernistic false prophets, soothsayers and their like on YouTube who inspire fear, trepidation, and terror about future catastrophic events aren’t worth paying mind to. Those whom are deemed righteous in Gods eyes have nothing to fear about End of the World events.
admin · September 22, 2015 at 09:46
Dear Chris, thank you for your comments.
I see NASA as one of the most trustworthy US government institutions as it freely publishes its data which can be scrutinised by anyone. Can you give an example of information issued by NASA that you find dubious? Does this mean you also distrust other space agencies and space research institutions?
Chris F. · September 23, 2015 at 04:56
Quote: (“Does this mean you also distrust other space agencies and space research institutions?”)
Not at all. And it’s not everything NASA puts out that I simply ignore.
I’ll give one example concerning the Feds at NASA, in reference to the late 1960’s so called astronaut Moon landings which many find controversial for a number of reasons in question accounting for the technological scientific advancements of that era, the political cold war between United States and Russia (child-like space race dominance of the later 1960’s) and poorly televised video footage and content within. I was 13 years old when I watched that broadcast. Conspiracy theories run a-muck I know, yet still other questionable unanswered queries remain on other topics. For on instance after the Apollo missions came to a close, so called further maned missions became of no interest even to this day. Makes me question why the big plausible interests of sending a maned mission to Mars? Bragging rights?

Dear Chris, thanks for responding. I don’t want to veer of topic, but I think that you ought to read some our other articles (including the comments) before you use expressions like “so called astronaut Moon landings”. Try these and see what you think.

I might add that NASA and all global space agencies and observatories track far less than 5% of what they can observe in this grandiose awesome view of stars, solar systems, galaxies and numerous other wondrous space anomalies including space fairing rogue objects that are for the most part untraceable by human science.

All I know is that God warns His lived ones before destructions comes upon them,be it comet or what, what I know is that we are leaving in the time like that of Lot and Noah, where the love for Lord had gone cold.
It would be good for a wise man to see what is happening around the word and then deny the warning, what I see is wars and disaster. Take heed
Geo · September 20, 2015 at 10:35
First let me thank you for this information, I too was a bit scared when I heard all this but I doubt any government would be able to keep this on the low but hey u never know. In the end religious beliefs or not if its the end it’s the end, not much me or anyone can do. I found this article very informative so offsubject question; do u have any info or article about this whole dark matter experiment going on at cern with real data an not just religious mumbo jumbo???

Dear Geo, we are astronomy educators here so CERN’s work is usually a bit removed from us. Have you considered going to CERN’s website and researching this yourself, here is a link you may find helpful.
Mary · September 20, 2015 at 09:35
My Husband and I have noticed the last few days that there is a very bright star in the sky early morning which we assumed was the North Star. However it looks a lot brighter than it normally does and seems to be a strange shape so could this be an asteroid? But as someone already said, if it was to happen the government would not tell us as it would cause mass hysteria. Plus with these planes keep going over as soon as its a clear sky and we get chemtrails, it makes us wonder what they are doing it for, are they hiding something? I know a lot of these stories are rubbish but it will happen one day and no doubt there will be people like you dismissing it and saying its not true so not to cause panic.
Oh and for all those who claims God lets people and babies die..is also utter rubbish. Dying is all part of life and we all go when our time is up. However a lot of illness that people get such as cancer are caused by manmade means, such as pollution that we are breating in, or our lifestyle i,e smoking, drinking too much, taking drugs, eating fatty food which causes heart attacks etc. Again babies who are born with deformaties or other illnesses are caused again by what we eat and pollution so again is manmade. God gave us a choice and we chose to destroy this beautiful planet with the rubbish we put into the atmosphere and we choose to destroy our bodies with the rubbish we put into them. Sto stop blaming God for everything that happens.
admin · September 21, 2015 at 09:58
Dear Mary, I am very sure that the bright star you are seeing is really the beautiful planet Venus which is dominating the pre-dawn sky at the moment (though Jupiter is close by and pretty outstanding too).
Ali · September 21, 2015 at 17:05
Yes I agree with this. I noticed it two nights ago to the east at about 5:30 AM CST in the states! It worried me as well as I’ve been feeling anxiety over all of this. Dear Kam, what predictions? The author of the article has a history of predicting disasters which do not happen (see this link). He has just cobbled together a list of events in September, cranky YouTube videos and fringe religious opinions. It is meaningless and only exists to attract people to his site so he gets more advertising revenue.

But any way thank you for this article you have help people who have been panicking about this.

This is absolutely terrifying! I’m sat here and I don’t know what to do or say. My head feels like it is spinning. I really see no way out of this. My remaining days will be filled with frustration and confusion. I understand people are filled with hopelessness and are looking for answers to justify their existence but in this day and age, how can people still wholeheartedly believe in an invisible man and an archaic, manipulative book? The fact that so many do is frightening! Much more frightening than some asteroid hitting the earth! They will do almost anything based on some book, all while (for the vast majority) doing things that are directly against said book’s wishes. That’s the real scary thing here.

Writing from the US I have no concerns of this occurring. I do find a lot of comments extremely amusing. One answer to every question would have to be wether or not you believe won’t matter. If it happens ( which I don’t believe it will) you wouldn’t have paid attention and will vanish in moments anyway. If it doesn’t happen( which it won’t) the one’s standing outside at 2am will feel pretty crazy that they fell for the doomsday joke again. Finally the answer stand outside at 2 am and find out for yourself being prepared won’t make a difference anyway if it does happen same that being prepared won’t help if it don’t.
Good day to all.

It was sooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful….. a little smaller than the size of the moon…. that’s how close it was… i thought it was just a lightning or a plane on fire diving or a fire cracker but it was not bec fire crackers fell straight down…. this one had a long streak going from right to left direction…. it was sooooooooooooo bright yellow green white and blue and looooooooooong streaks…. sorry i am just an ordinary human ….. i feel so blessed to have witnessed it…..
The entire sky lit up…. it was a beautiful… there’s an airplane approaching the same direction i hope the pilot saw it too…..
was it a comet , fire cracker? i hope somebody would report it too

Enjoyed your article. We have the most fun watching all the wacky theories on youtube about comets, meteors, earthquakes, aliens, Jade Helm, et cetera. It is worrisome that so many people buy into it all. Unfortunately, there will always be enough people to fall prey to this sort of thing due to their religious beliefs or fears. I am not downplaying their faith. I am a Christian who believes that we have been given the ability by God to learn through science. Sometimes I think people want to believe these things may happen because they are just bored stiff with life as usual. Lastly, I hope they don’t stop posting these things because it is the source of so much amusement at our house.

Ian · September 16, 2015 at 20:34
After reading the first dozen or so comments here I was happily chuckling to myself. Having now reached the bottom of the page, all I can feel is profound sadness.
How can so many people be so ill-informed or so easily misled that they would believe this nonsense? How can it be that 12- and 13-year-old children with genuine anxieties are having to seek reassurances from a stranger with a blog about something that their parents should be decrying as a matter of course?
I commend the author for attempting to offer what is evidently a much-needed dose of sanity, and for showing such patience when dealing with the more obnoxious posters.
To anyone reading this who is guilty of perpetuating this ridiculous tripe about invisible meteors and government conspiracies, for religious reasons or otherwise, you should be utterly ashamed.

I do believe in God Almighty Jesus Christ and His word the Bible informs us that this will happen. None of us can say when but when it happens be for sure that God will protect His children. its clearly stated in His word that we have to live near God for when this wil happen God will take us aways as His word says RAPTURE. I do believe God will rapture His children away when this happen. The Bibel says we must live so that we can escape all this things when it happens. So the BESt is to repent and give your life to Jesus so for when this happen you can be safe with God. The Rapture will take place and God will save His children from this day of atorment. Amen to Jesus – Repent my friends and give your life to Jesus while there is still time left GOD BLESS

I am NOT religious, but I know quite a bit about the bible and ‘bible codes’ it’s BUNKUM, utter turkey poop. Even the bible says ‘only the lord (Jesus AND/OR God, knows when the end will come’, this proves bible scholars are cherry picking through the bible to keep the ‘flock’ scared. The more sheep in a flock, the higher the ‘donations’ to the given churches of all branches of Christianity, COE (Church of England), Catholicism, baptist so forth. It’s also a great way to sell phony books and ebooks, survival gear, guns, pretty much ANY idiot with a computer can do it, even big companies can by spreading the hoax in the media and putting little ‘you might just need this £1000 ‘bug out’ kit. Someone who doom mongs quoting the bible, need to watch Jack and the beanstalk, I’ll not spoil the end for you.
AARON · September 15, 2015 at 15:42
hey just out of curiosity where did you get your sources? I’m not trying to argue with you. you state strong facts, but how do you know have you actually looked into a telescope that could see it and not? or are you basing your facts off other scientist? as you know in the Bible it states from Jesus Christ no will know the second coming. not the angels or Jesus only the Father will know so trying to base the judgement day with the blood moons and this so called asteroid is ludicrous. We have no idea when Christ will Return. let me ask you a Question. IF you knew a guy was going to break in your home and steal stuff later on in the night, you would be sitting and waiting with protection. same deal God will not let us know when he will return. He wants true believers. not someone preparing for it because new facts came out about his return.

Dear Aaron, thank you for your questions.
I cannot as no one has told me where to look! Not one person predicting this imaginary event can say where this asteroid is in the sky or can give any details of its orbit.
I am sorry but I cannot see your question.
TLO · September 15, 2015 at 15:11
Hello Admin,
I appreciate the information from the article and your knowledge of astronomy. I am christian and as I read through these comments, I smirk slightly because of the specific dates people are putting out there. I don’t believe there is an asteroid coming on that date, not only because your article and your thoughts state this but we believers need to understand we do not know the day or the hour of God’s coming and events that will take place.
Admin, you are clearly intelligent in your field of astronomy, but do you maybe stop and think about the things happening in the world? Do you think that there is a threat to earth in the future that can affect our human lives?(I mean scientifically) I only ask you this because there is so much speculation that goes on, I wonder what you think about the different things that you can physically see happening on the earth. Do you think they are connected to what the bible says? Or do stick to strictly astronomy and its proof. Just a question, trying to pick your brain a bit. (btw you have responded very well to all your comments)
admin · September 16, 2015 at 10:01
Dear TLO, thank you for your questions.
There are clearly numerous future or possible events that will effect all our lives: climate change, declining resources (and possible conflicts over them), new pandemics, evolution of antibiotic resistant bacteria etc. But I don’t see anything coming that could threaten the survival of humanity.
I try to stick to science.

Hi. Stuff like this can and will happen sometime in the future. Don’t worry about it. If and when it does, you will not be able to run from it. Just make peace with God and be ready for when that time does come. God tells us that he will destroy the earth with fire and brimstone. Is it this year? No one knows and no one is going to know. We as believers hope he will take us home before that time comes. But all that to one side…..man can not predict all things in nature, so take it with a grain of salt…..if it happens….it happens. There is nothing you or I can do to stop it. If it don’t happen…life continues. So yea…just use common sense.

Receive Jesus Christ into your heart to be protected from the wrath to come! Heaven and earth will be shaken and there will be chaos on the streets so please stay inside with your family tomorrow! Get into the ark before it’s too late because you DO NOT want to be left behind. Many will have to die for their faith but will still go to heaven as long as they DON’T take the mark of the beast mandated by Obama through the NWO. All the signs are here and the Palestinians received approval by the UN to raise the flag and divide Israel. God will bring judgment to this world by 9-13 and the rapture will occur on 9-15. Revelation 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
Sounds a lot like a Meteor to me…. God dates the Impact in Daniel but you have to study and seek his word to receive a clear 20/20 vision of the event. God will judge this world with the wine press of his wrath (or meteor impact)because of their disobedience to his law.

I don’t know if this is going to. happen in Sept or not. We will know soon enough but I do know the Bible speaks of a time when the earth will to and fro like a drunkard so somethings going to happen that will through our planet off its axis. It may not happen until after the rapture but the earth is going to undergo some disastrous events such as, earthquakes, floods, droughts, intense heat poured out by angels upon mankind, and hail that is the size of a talent, 100 lbs, just to name a few, that are the result of God’s wrath. Since God created the heavens and the earth there are many things that he may use to bring these events to pass in my opinion. Of course. I dont know when. It could be this month or 20+ years from now but sooner or later they will occur.

The Economy is going to crash around the 13th of September. This event is going to ease the way for the New World Government / Religion announcement at the United Nations summit on the 25-27th of September.
A comet is in-fact heading towards earth. However it’s being sent by Jehovah himself.. Expect increased natural disasters in the weeks leading up to the 28th Of September, due to the gravitational pull of the comet.
Try to show Love, Honour, Dignity, Loyalty, Humility, Integrity, and most importantly help out your fellow humans.
This is no joke.. The end of this evil system has finally arrived. We need to assess ourselves and make sure we’re trying our best to live moral lives.

Dear Timothex, thank you for posting here.
What is your source for these predictions? They sound as unlikely as those of Rev. Rodriguez.
This is not true.
This is impossible, comets are tiny!
Christina · September 14, 2015 at 18:26
I agree that there will be no impact later this month.
Though I am a Christian believer and believe that the time of the end is upon us, I also know from Revelation that there WILL be a meteoritic impact……Wormwood, but that wont happen till the Tribulation hour.
Jesus Christ warned us about setting dates, people. He doesn’t want us to be apathetic, He teaches us to be aware of the signs to come, but as for a meteor impact, I can definitely say NO…and as for anything ELSE that the conspiracy theorists (admittedly I am one of them but I don’t necessarily go along with the crowd) the best any true Christian believer can say is an educated MAYBE.

Dearest Colin
How come 2015 HV 182 does not have a minimum distance or pass by date or size in meters like all other asteroids listed on JPL website. I can’t seem to find any of this info on this specific asteroid yet all the other asteroids have close approach data. I would like to note that the condition code for this is a 9
admin · September 14, 2015 at 10:41
Dear Adrian, I don’t know the answer to this. However 2015 HV 182 will not make a close approach to Earth until October 2033 (see this link) so there is no question of this object hitting Earth in September 2015. Perhaps the JPL Small-Body Database Browser does not calculate so far ahead.

Hey Man!
Thank You.
I’m a very stupid person so I got fairly anxious about it. I even got anxious about 2012 for christ sake! I was 13 back then and now Im 16. I thank you very much for de bunking it. For a very skeptic person I can get a little carried away. Please people don’t judge me. For being stupid.
Thanks

codybirthday · September 12, 2015 at 06:02
Eh em, this doesn’t all correctly match up. First of all, this “September 23 Asteroid Impact” scientifically, is impossible. Along with that, it should only be associated with religion, and not science, and religious-wise, it still won’t happen. Both science and the bible disprove that the “end is imminent.” The practice of the belief that the end is always imminent is NOT in the Bible. There are certain things/stages or seals that should occur before the “second coming.” And again, this should only be associated with religion due to the fact this was first started by a religious person, Efrain Rodriguez. No one is in their place to state that there is scientific reasons that there is “indisputable evidence” of a celestial body. No, there isn’t. The sixth seal hasn’t opened, which means this cannot happen. And for the sixth seal to open, there needs to be several others opening, which hasn’t opened. And by the way, by biblical logic, a “prophet” will return and tell us that the second coming is here, but that wont happen. If it did, [which it won’t] it should happen on the 15th, or the 16th [It should be seven days before the supposed impact.] As that is what the bible states, 7 day pre-warning. So, the end of the world is not imminent. By biblical logic, you shouldn’t have to worry about it. Now, the next topic. The problem is that this is a “snowballed” topic, which means it will have one conspiracy theory put on the day, then another, then another, until there are about several conspiracy theories. And it’s put on this certain day because it is two days from the papal visit to Philadelphia and the pope is visiting Obama, which is a coincidence. Back to the theories, it has religious theories and pseudoscientific ones. Like, how does a random scientist get that this asteroid is affecting our weather off of a reverend. Last time I checked, science and religion sometimes don’t get along. Now, back to snowballing [excuse me for always switching off topic, i’m a little frightened too]. Snowballing is done constantly with this date. Wasn’t there over a hundred theories for 2012? Heh, funny.

I know you have covered this several times but I have a specific question in regards to the French prime ministers comment of 500 days to avoid climate chaos. Has he or anybody in the government officially followed up what that meant? I know that the assumption is the climate conference and like you said 500 sounds more dramatic than 565 but is this just an assumption or is there evidence backing this? Climate chaos is such a hard phrase so I just wanted the facts, not assumptions. Thanks in advance buddy. Also, thank you for taking the time to address each and every single persons concern on here, your awesome!

Have you listened to John Kerry and Laurent Fabius’ speech yourself? Or are you only accepting what cranky websites and YouTube videos say about it? Remember these are exactly the same sites that are spreading the lie that an asteroid is about to strike the Earth!
The complete speech is at this link.

“This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper”
~T. S. Elliot
Happening or not, to all the folks posting that your scared, is that really how you want to go out… panicking and afraid? one would think something like this would make you realise that life is short and we need to make the most of it we can, there is literally no time for fear. If you’re going to die in 10 days or 10 years, face facts you’re going to die eventually so get out there and love with all your heart, feel with all your being, live with all your life. We are put on this planet for one basic reason… to live, and when our time is up, that’s it, game over.
all I’m trying to say is if it happens great, I’ve lived to the fullest of my capabilities and if it doesn’t even better I can do more of the same… can you make that claim?
In other news from this little county called South Africa, where we have this place called the Sutherland Observatory just sort of known for having this thing called SALT, the biggest ground based telescope in the southern hemisphere (4th biggest on the planet to my knowledge) and is capable of viewing over 70% of the planet’s sky. Now the reason I’m mentioning it is because the father of one of my best friends works there and considering he is a twitchy, overly paranoid, little man (I kid you not, he made 4 of my buddies and myself spend 6 months digging a bomb shelter for the Y2K fiasco… which need I mention built up this huge hype for absolutely nothing, so anticlimactic I literally flipped the switch at the DV board for a day or two just for some satisfaction) but here is the thing, if he of all the people I know in scientific fields of work, hasn’t attempted to load us into his shelter yet it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll all wake up comfy and warm in our beds at the end of the month. On top of that I believe there are only really 3 reasons for not being able to monitor asteroids or comets from there, namely they are to small to track effectively, their orbital path comes between earth and the sun in which case what soon to be blind moron would attempt it? Or finally it’s orbital path travels through the shadow of a planet though I might be wrong there, admin feel free to correct me I may have a 162IQ but I’m a game developer not an astronomer. As for the religious side of this whole thing, I believe it was Emperor Constantine himself that is quoted as saying “We will use Christianity as a manner of controlling the greater masses”, the story of Jesus alone is near blatantly plagiarised from the Persian god Mithra, never mind the other 15 examples from other religions all predating the “invention” of Christianity. I’m not bible bashing or anything, I’m just saying Christianity has a lot of explaining to do for not only the worlds youngest religion but also the worlds most blood soaked religion especially considering it preaches: Peace, Love and Harmony…
AND FOR THE LOVE OF WHOM EVER YOU CONSIDER GOD STOP BELIEVING EVERY LITTLE THING YOU READ OR HEAR WITHOUT ACTUALLY LOOKING INTO THE MATTER FOR YOURSELF!!!

Thank you for your response. That being said does it have any chance of hitting earth since it has not been observed in a long time??
admin · September 11, 2015 at 08:58
Dear Adrian, no there is no chance of this. If you look at the close approach data for this asteroid this September (link) you will see that there is a range of approach distances cited (Nominal Distance, Minimum Distance and Maximum Distance). The minimum and maximum distances are at either end of the range of uncertainty from the calculated orbit. At absolute worst it will miss by 0.05497 au (8.22 million km)!

I hope you can read my article again and see that I say that a preacher said this will happen only because he says he was shown a vision. To me this sounds like he made this story up. The sky is full of amazing things!

Dear Elaine, the article that has frightened you is from a trashy tabloid newspaper and is lurid and sensationalised BUT nowhere in it does it claim that this really going to happen! It is (mostly correctly) reporting that a minority of religious enthusiasts are claiming this disaster will happen to promote their own ends and that people who actually know about asteroids regard this as childish nonsense. That is exactly what my article says too.
Please read material like this critically, ignoring the dramatic pictures and attention-grabbing headlines.

As a military person, I can say this, no the govt does not publicize horrible news to prevent mass hysteria. However if there was a large comet coming in 2weeks truse me we would already see it in the sky. Religious fanatics frequently use these ploys to gain notoriety or for financial gain. There’s nothing more to it. If, by chance something of this nature does occur, there’s nothing that can be done about it that would not cause equal or more destruction, so love, live and prosper. Just my opinion.

Adrian · September 9, 2015 at 05:54
Dear Colin
2012 TT5 was last observed in 2012. The condition code is listed as a six, not to be mistaken with its rating on the Torino scale. If a condition of a six seems like a certainly high level of uncertainty why hasn’t the asteroid been observed again for the last several years? Do asteroids disappear and are hard to find again? Also, there seems to have been a fireball in Thailand the other day. Is this a normal event?
admin · September 9, 2015 at 10:26
Dear Adrian, thanks for your questions.
It is a small faint object best observed when it is close to Earth. I’m sure it will be observed on its forthcoming approach.
This does occasionally happen. There is a fairly useful entry on Lost Minor Planets at Wikipedia.
Meteors are burning up over our heads every time of day, usually we only notice them against the dark sky of night. However daytime fireballs are more common than most people realise (I’ve seen one). What is great now is that the ubiquity of cameras mean lots of people record these spectacular events now.
I hope this has helped you.
St. Mike · September 9, 2015 at 01:38
Think of it this way, nobody knows when the next big one will hit us because nobody has seen it yet. Sometimes they come so fast we don’t even know it. and if it did hit and it was huge like they say, you won’t even know it hit ya. Secondly we are more likely to go by a pulsar or a red dwarf. So yeah I wouldn’t even worry about it. Live your life! 🙂
admin · September 9, 2015 at 09:48
Dear St. Mike, thanks for your comments, but what hazards do you think pulsars or red dwarf stars present? I’ve never heard this claimed before!
Stylez · September 15, 2015 at 01:27
If you don’t mind I would like to comment on the pulsar and red dwarf and you are welcome for my earlier reply.
A Pulsar is basically what is left over after a Star goes supernova. So basically if that happened near us we wouldn’t be here to see the pulsar since the Supernova would evaporate us basically.
On another scenario if a Pulsar was to somehow come into our solar system and get near us it would be basically the Carrington Event all over again multiplied by 10,000(probably more than that.) Also the tides would get all crazy and we’d see tsunamis, crazy weather we have never seen.Sun would go bonkers and start belting out solar flares we have never seen before. Our atmosphere would be weakened and the radiation from space and pulsar would hit us. Oh and eventually the pulsars gravity would pull us into it and we would cease to exist along with everything else on the planet. So I guess what I’m saying is it would be bad lol
Our closets red dwarf(Proxima Centauri) to us is 4.24 light years away from us so we don’t have to worry about that. If one was to come close I would believe that the sun would keep it at bay,but it would more than likely pass through the Oort Cloud which could hurdle comets and other icy objects towards us. I did look into to that and scientists predict that it could happen eventually(Death Star HIP 560),but it would be 240,000 to 400,000 years from now. and it’s 200 light years away so my take is it probably isn’t gonna happen.
admin · September 16, 2015 at 10:34
Dear Stylez, thanks for responding, I think maybe it was the terminology used that was responsible for my confusion. I agree that a nearby supernova would probably be fatal to us all. Thankfully there are no likely supernova candidates nearby or neutron stars in our vicinity.
Other stars to occasionally pass close to the Solar System, and I’ve written about them before, see Did a Wandering Star Light Up Ancient Skies? and Will a rogue star cause chaos in the Solar System?.
Stylez · September 8, 2015 at 23:31
To ease everyone’s mind on this. I have a list of failed predictions and some points at the end. This is just a small list as there are many.
April 1987 – Leyland Jensen predicted that Halley’s Comet would be pulled into Earth’s orbit on April 29, 1987, causing widespread destruction.
July 1999 – A prediction attributed to Nostradamus stating the “King of Terror” would come from the sky in “1999 and seven months” led to fears of the end.
January 2000 – Y2K
May 2000 – Star Holocaust would pull all planets to the sun thus burning them all up.
2003 to present day – Planet X or Nibiru will collide with earth. To this day followers still say it is almost here.Still this one is a very thoughout false predicition that is interesting if you like science fiction.
1969 – 2012 – Rapture
2011 – Fears that Comet Elenin would cause the earth’s crust to tear causing global earthquakes and mass exctintion
2012 – Mayan Calendar
August 2013 – Rasputin prophesied a storm where fire would destroy most life on land and Jesus Christ would come back to Earth to comfort those in distress.
September 2015 – And we come to this one. This one will come to pass as another false prediction. As stated above if there was a giant asteroid about to hit earth many amateur astronomers would have found this and this would be all that is talked about from within the conspiracy theory and other websites alike. If those of you believe the government has control of the information and it wouldn’t get out then sit back and think at just how many people there are in the world. one bit of info gets out and it starts a trickle down effect. so basically i’m saying we would have known by now.
I also want to talk about all the youtubers who post all this September doomsday stuff as fact. They do this all for video hits and that is it. They cleverly pick through movies, articles, commercials,tv shows etc. and state the information they find as facts and piece it together to make it seem that way. you can look back at the 2012 Mayan Calendar and the same thing was done. I know many people who were scared that year. Many people I knew and people i would see. Luckily i’m a person who loves to be in the know on everything related to this stuff. I calmed a lot of people that year.
All in all this prediction will be false like all the others. sorry that this got so long administrator.

Daleen Snyman · September 8, 2015 at 19:26
I have been reading all your comments. I think the bottom line of all this….is not whether
this disaster is going to happen or not. The most important message should be…Do you know Christ as your saviour? Believe that you will always be in the saddow of the Almighty…whatever happens. If you are not a believer in Christ…Hey what does it matter?
Patrick · September 8, 2015 at 11:26
Hello!
Mate I admire your patience, lost count how many times the end of the world has been predicted in my lifetime, always coming from a religious zealot/fanatic wanting or hoping to see everything burn, these people have never met you but they write with so much hate, why? Is that what their religion teaches?
And to everyone afraid of what will not happen; why do you want to know so desperately when you may cease to exist?
Me, well even in the unlikely event that were to happen I’d keep doing what I do every night, kiss my kids goodnight and tell my wife I love her.
Great blog Collin.

Dear Elaine, a very quick piece of research shows this to be nonsense. A religious group is claiming this for theological not science-based reasons. They have previously predicted world-ending disasters on 21 May 2011 and 21 October 2011, obviously these have not happen. No one should take these predictions seriously!

I have terrible anxiety and I can’t stop shaking after finding out about this. There are a lot of articles saying NASA could hide this. I found out from a YouTube video by the person with the name of Renee M. The person said they had inside information about it. Are you positive that amateur astronomers would see it? Is there any way that they could miss it? Normally after an end of the world story like this gets debunked I’m fine but this time is different. People keep saying things like FEMA stockpiling body bags and coffins and Jade Helm being an excersize to be able to control crowds when people find out. I know a lot of people have commented, but I would really appreciate if you could get back to me. Thanks.
Noname · September 8, 2015 at 02:09
I forgot to add that there are videos of TV shows, movies, ect. That have the date September 23-24. Could this mean anything? Also I believe they said it’s the new 100 dollar bill that you can fold to make it look like a wave is coming over some city?
admin · September 9, 2015 at 08:16
Dear Noname, thanks for your comments, but what on Earth has folding a banknote got to do with an asteroid impact?
In seeing significance in dates appearing in TV shows etc I am afraid that you are falling victim to confirmation bias (link).
admin · September 9, 2015 at 08:46
Dear Noname, I am very sad that this imaginary event has worried you so much.
How do you know the stories of bodybags etc being prepared are true and not just stories spread by people to get pleasure or profit from scaring other people? Just because someone makes a YouTube video about something doesn’t make it true! May I ask why you find videos on YouTube to be believable?
This current hoax is a sad case of history repeating itself. In 2011 people were telling me they’d seen videos and websites saying that bunkers were being prepared and martial law was going to be implemented because Comet Elenin was going to cause destruction or three days of darkness on Earth. This never happened. In 2013 people were again telling me bunkers and mass graves were being prepared and there was going to be a military takeover in the US because Comet ISON was going to cause destruction on Earth. This of course never happened either. There was nothing to be scared of in 2011 or 2013 and there is nothing to be scared of 2015.
Noname · September 9, 2015 at 21:01
Thank you for your reply. I have an anxiety disorder and my mind likes to worry even if I know that it probably isn’t true. I mean if an asteroid of the size they were claiming was headed our way, amateur astronomers would have seen it already, right? I’m sorry for all these questions, but I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to reply to everyone’s comments. Especially touching on every detail like you have with mine.
admin · September 10, 2015 at 08:44
Dear Noname, if this object existed, both professional and amateur astronomers would have seen it and it would be reported as the main story on all the news media.
I am very sorry to hear about your condition. All I can say is that you are not alone, there will be family and friends around you who you could talk to about your concerns and help show you there is nothing to worry about. Let them read this article and the conversation we have had in these comments and see what they think.
There might be something else you can do to make yourself feel better. Stories like this do not concern me because I have studied space and astronomy for a long time. Maybe looking into to astronomy too would help you see how there is nothing to worry about. Perhaps you could join your local astronomy club and talk to its members or even take a course in astronomy at a college? Learning about astronomy could help prove to you that the sky is full of amazing things and not things to be anxious about!

Fear is the wrong word, I feel sorry for these power hungry idiots who truly believe that their tactics of attack on humanity’s freedom is going to succeed, when it has been proven over and over again that humans are meant to be free and will always stand firm and United to fight and win that freedom, throughout history!:)

Scientific speaking, the amount of asteroids that aren’t clueless about their existence / trajectory / speed is biggest than the asteroids that are cataloged.
So Scientific speaking, WE ARE CLUELESS.
admin · September 7, 2015 at 08:27
Dear Mags, I do not understand what you are saying. Could you repeat it in different words?
Angie · September 6, 2015 at 20:41
Saw something in the night sky that’s shining so bright that the moon can even compare. Mistook it for a huge star then I realised it was moving. On and off for 2 months now. Huge. Inc the southern hemisphere.
Never fear life’s circumstances.
admin · September 7, 2015 at 08:18
Dear Angie, I am sorry to say that based on the limited detail I do not know what you have been observing or even if it is the same object each time you see it. However it must be something that is usual in the sky, if a large new object was visible to the unaided eye it would be reported throughout the general and scientific media.
Khaihid · September 6, 2015 at 16:19
Seriously, I have no idea why people are making false predictions about the end of the world. If an Asteroid was on course for a collision NASA would immediately tell the world but as they know it no Asteroid will hit the earth so why does this funny guy think its acceptable to make false predictions to scare people, NASA are never wrong, when the 2012 end of times prediction was made saying that there will be a asteroid smashing into earth NASA denied the predictions. Thank you for making this article i really appreciate it and hope that a lot of people can have a good sleep without this silly prediction going throught there head at night.

Could be a false flag– for the depopuation Agenda.Another Fukushima HAARP attack–causing a militarized police state, to be welcomed by the survivors. or some variation of genocidal theatre. Eugenics anyone?
admin · September 7, 2015 at 08:37
Dear Wilson, how could a nefarious organisation fake a gigantic asteroid impact? You do understand too that HAARP is the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Project currently run by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, not a weapon?
luc89 · September 5, 2015 at 22:59
Thing is people do generally listen to this claims of the end of the world and esp young ppl can really effect there life if the world was going to end I don’t think personally it would be all over Internet and news paper but I even no a young girl that committed suicide after the false claims in 2012 … how sad she was that scared she took her own life !!

Dear Luc89, preventing awful tragedies like that girl’s suicide are why I try to refute faked predictions of disaster.
Anonimous · September 5, 2015 at 17:11
Worry not about the end of times or about death but trust in God at all times. Death is certain but it isn’t the end. It is only the begining……. of eternity. To those who put all their faith in science and humans, know this: humans are fallible and untrustworthy. Scientists like to think that they have all the answers to everything but cannot even explain where water came from, and even resort to concealing certain information which may threaten their scientific views. There were once giants on earth and yet they conceal their skeletal remains. Atlantis was engulfed by the great flood yet they don’t dare mention it. Buddhists, nazis, various central and South American tribes and even certain members of British royalty all believe/d in a hollow earth inhabited by an advanced “superior race” and yet there is no mention of this in scientific circles. Makes one wonder what else they think they are covering up.
admin · September 7, 2015 at 09:06
Dear Anonimous, thank you for comments.
I do not agree with this and it suggests that you do not know many scientists!
Can you name a source for this extraordinary claim? I know there is a television series in the USA (link) about this but it does not appear to be factual (link).
The sole ancient source for the myth of Atlantis comes from essentially an Ancient Greek science fiction story by Plato. There is a useful podcast at this link.
I think again you are believing a fictional story to be true, in this case Bulwer-Lytton’s The Coming Race (1871). I would also note that support for an idea by British royalty does not actually make it true, I understand that some members of the royal family believe in absurd notions such as homeopathy and that plants can hear and understand the spoken word.
Finally, not only were the Nazis blood-thirsty maniacs, but they were one of the most incompetent and ignorant political movements in history. Do you not think that calling on them for support is a sign you are losing your argument?
Maurice · September 5, 2015 at 16:43
Im 13 and I am very scared. So if for some divine intervention the asteroid did hit us then would it have any effect in Houston Tx. I belive in god and god says It’ll be like a theif in a night noone will know. But at the same time the people who are having these visions could be one of the 144,000 said in the bible to rule the world in heaven after the end. I just really need assurance cause I always expected the end to come after I grew up.
Victor Ward · September 5, 2015 at 16:05
Dear Admin,
Its true that if an object that size was coming in a couple of weeks it would already be one of the brightest objects in the night sky next to the moon?
admin · September 7, 2015 at 08:24
Dear Victor, no, assuming this imaginary object is an asteroid it would not be visible to the unaided eye until shortly before impact. However it would have been observed by astronomers for weeks beforehand.

spacecadet · September 4, 2015 at 22:26
I do not know if any rock will hit Earth at the prophetic time but I am curious if something like a comet could be hidden by the sun or the sun’s glare until reaching an intersection point with Earth. We do remember that the rock that created a sonic boom over Russia was reportedly not noticed because it came at us from the sun’s direction. I have read some time ago that Nostradamus predicted a rock to hit through Cancer which I believe is just about to exit the sun’s morning glare soon.
admin · September 7, 2015 at 08:52
Dear Spacecadet, while telescopes cannot be pointed at or near the Sun for obvious reasons, asteroids and the Earth are moving and it is impossible for an object to be hidden by the Sun’s glare for any length of time. The Chelyabinsk meteroid was not visible in the immediate hours before impact because of its trajectory relative to the Sun’s position, but it was also too small to have been spotted earlier.
I do not understand what you think Nostradamus predictions have to do with reality!

codybirthday · September 7, 2015 at 03:18
it’s my birthday today, and i really never got to enjoy with my friends. when we went to the movies i stayed on my phone most of the time, reading these comments.
i’m a christian myself, but i know that the bible says that no man will know when the end times are near, not even Jesus. i’m not gonna say that “God loves us” or anything because that would be debatable, i’m just saying that the rumor-starting fearmongerers are basically doing what theyre meant to do, to fear people.
i’m only 12. what i find funny is that no one has ever responded to the admin’s constant statements that “it is strange that people will strike fear in someone”. i hope that you know me, a 12 year old, who is just going to a new school and wants to have a better year than the last cannot be sure it will be, because of this scary content. it only scares me more when people state the many coincidences that will be happening “500 days” after the french minister uttered the info.
but it also reassures me that apparently there will be a UN conference about climate change, the day that the french minister said is the last time to avoid climate change. so is this meaning that we have had 500 days to stop polluting the earth, and then there will be a UN conference about climate change that will include very intense scenarios that might affect a few UN countries’s economy to help stop climate change and pollution.
– codybirthday
ps. i would like for you to make me feel a little bit better on this topic because every logical explanation i get i still fear about it. pls, i hope i am not testing your patience.

Dear Josh, there are websites which calculate the destructive effects of an asteroid or comet impact for you. Here are some links:
Earth Impact Effects Program
Impact Calculator (this one allows you to pick the impact site from a list or a map)
Impact Earth
You could have a play with these, I believe Rodriguez’ followers claim the imaginary asteroid will be 2.5 miles (4000 m) across, they have no other useful data like its speed or composition but you could experiment with different values. I hope you find this useful.

I might or might not get this statement right, so don’t judge too hard.
I believe in God and Jesus, and The End times are near, But I believe the bible stated that It will happen when we LEAST expect it. Also Though there are some weird stuff happen in the past years, I don’t believe that we are gonna hit the rapture times this soon. Being a God fearing warrior doesn’t exactly mean that I am listening to this bogus claims that the world will end. I mean come on.
There will always be people claiming that something will kill off the world, but On a specific Nation, Race, Religion, Gender, etc is what separates the false from real. God created all of us, He loves every single one of us, And in time, all of us will receive his judgment TOGETHER. We all sinned. None of us are pure. So if he was coming…..
None of us would be alive lol.
Personally, I am currently praying that this “End times” is a long way off. I am 22 years old and barely got out of the military. I haven’t even gotten married yet. I’m barely starting my life. But that’s me.
Don’t speak for the creator. We’ll know when the end times will occur…..
….And it will occur in a twinkle of an eye
Marie · September 27, 2015 at 10:48
If I’m honest, but I think most of the world know, we least expect everything in this world, universe and Galaxy. It’s all what makes its great! In my opinion. If somethings going to happen it will happen. Weather we know hours day months later or just in the blink of an eye.

Here is the nasa link for the commit 2012 TT5 its is a condition code #6 whatever that is on scale level
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2012%20TT5;orb=1;old=0;cov=0;log=0;cad=1#cad
As for it hitting who knows and for answering to god we need to think about how he/she should be answering to humanity for the suffering we have caused ourselves and the amount of innocent children lives over centuries of wars and killings over his/her name that he/she could prove a point to his/her angels. As for major news covering this story does not seem to be of any interest to them and even if it were true telling us would only create a even worse state of emergency before it even passes and people would forget all about gods and would panic or riot around the planet. We would be best to worry about the real issues that threaten us around the world we already have enough natural and man made issues we should be trying to work together as a whole and put the worlds resources and all nations should be united to insure a future for humanity before we destroy it not some rock hitting it.
BTW My Birthday is Sept 24th older then my twin sister Michelle by 9min.
My name translates to Angel Of Earth I don’t want that job if a god does return..
admin · September 3, 2015 at 08:36
Dear Michael Mantle, the condition code is a measure of how accurately the object’s orbit is known, it is not anything to do with the Torino scale which is a measure of how potentially dangerous an asteroid or comet is. This object is not threatening Earth!
Gavin · September 2, 2015 at 19:24
Dear admin, I posted my fears a few days ago about how upset I was about all this talk about the meteor hitting in September. I suffer very badly with anxiety and the news of this meteor has mad me very ill. This morning I remember that a few weeks ago that my daughter did a project at school about space and she mentioned the Space Gaurd Centre so I had a look on the Internet and found it was located in Knighton, Powys about 30 from where I live so we rang them and headed over to talk to Jonathan R. Tate the director of the space guard centre, I needed someone to tell me face to face with facts that we were safe. He told us it was utter rubbish and there was no meteor heading our way what so ever. Something like this would be impossible to cover up because of amateur astronomers all around the world are constantly on the look out,and just like the SpaceGaurd centre are not controlled my governments or in receipt of government funding. So I feel a little happier now this is just a hoax and now I understand a little more about NEO’s and also the plans of how we could stop a future NEO from hitting earth. So all I can say is do some research and talk to someone like Jonathan R. Tate.
admin · September 3, 2015 at 08:31
Dear Gavin, thanks for letting me know about that. I’m glad you are reassured and I’m pleased to hear you received such excellent cooperation from Space Guard (link).

Dear Michael, the condition code is a measure of how accurately the object’s orbit is known, it is not anything to do with the Torino scale,
michael · September 2, 2015 at 13:50

admin · September 2, 2015 at 15:39
Dear Michael, please send me a link to the NASA site where this is stated.
Patrick · September 2, 2015 at 18:54
He’s right actually, toward the bottom of the page it is in fact listed as a 6.
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2012%20TT5;orb=1
But I don’t think it’s very big a deal as there was apparently an NEO listed as a 9 that made its pass on August 27th (2015 PM307) and several others listed as 6 a few days after.
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2015%20PM307;orb=1
I don’t quite understand the significance of the scale myself. I’m assuming it just means the level of uncertainty about the objects orbit as of yet. Can you clarify if you don’t mind?
admin · September 3, 2015 at 08:27
Dear Patrick, you are correct that the condition code is a measure of how accurately the object’s orbit is known. Some internet sources are (possibly deliberately) confusing asteroid 2012 TT5’s condition code of 6 with level 6 on the Torino Impact Hazard scale (link) and sadly this is frightening people.
Patrick · September 3, 2015 at 14:36

At the moment I have a deep interest in space. And what I would like to know is, if an asteroid was on imminent collision with earth, is there any way possible to warn people months in advanced. I ask this question because these videos on YouTube and other media platforms across the Internet seem so ridiculous that, if any celestial body was on a direct path towards earth, surely the information would get out much quicker – included with scientific proof.
Do you agree, or is there something else to it?

If people are so obsessed with the end of the world, they can go and do something real about it rather than spreading fake stories. Do farming, plant organic food, use less petrol, make less garbage, recycle, stand against Gmo’s, maybe then an asteroid would be the thing that would literally matter.

Dear Florien, it’s sort of true. Yes, telescopes cannot be pointed at or near the Sun for obvious reasons. However any asteroids and the Earth are moving and it is impossible for an object to be hidden by the Sun’s glare for any length of time.

From a logical perspective you can’t rule it out entirely, since we have not discovered all possible asteroids. This is why the astronomer’s union begged Congress to appropriate funds for full-sky scanning. Of course, Congress, which doesn’t even fathom global warming, is too busy funding wars and baloney – so they got turned down.

If the Earth is flying around the sun and the sun is flying around the galaxy and the galaxy is flying around the universe and the universe is flying around multiple universes… how come we see the same stars in the sky and the moon never changes its face? Maybe science is the lie? God Speed.
admin · September 1, 2015 at 10:22
Dear Franky, thanks for your comments. The Sun is moving through the Galaxy at a speed which is small compared to the size of the Galaxy so it is unsurprising that we see the same stars in the sky over human lifetimes. The Moon keeps the same face to Earth as its rotation around the Earth is synchronised with its orbital period due to tidal braking. Every moon in the Solar System is synchronised to its parent planet in the same way. This has been understood for centuries and is in no way evidence for the supernatural.
I find it amusing that you propose “Maybe science is the lie?” yet apparently accept the claims of Rev. Rodriguez despite his history of failed prophesies.
Athena · August 28, 2015 at 09:27
Dear Admin,
I’m so glad I checked this blog. As my friend was scrolling her twitter timeline, she told me that there was an asteroid coming that could probably destroy most of the earth. I was so frightened that I started to panic. I was so worried about this. And finding out that the date of the asteroid coming was after my best friend’s bday? Not really what I would like to hear. So, before I started to panic and probably rant on everyone, I checked the web, and I found this! This is helping me a lot to understand that I’m not in danger of anything. But seriously, people kept on saying things like the world is ending, or God is punishing us for what we’ve done. Well, people should stop doing this because the only thing that destroys our earth is probably ourselves. I like how you comment and answer all the comments that says that the asteroid is going to hit the earth and is going to kill all of us. Your answers really calmed me when I started to panic. This article is really logical and I like logical things. Probably I’ll start studying astronomy because this whole thing makes me a bit curious. Once again, thanks for calming a lot of people. But seriously, the asteroid thingy is all over the internet, teenagers or little kids would believe all this, just like me (I’m in 10th grade) it could-or has probably started- cause a massive panic amongst people.

Hello Colin –
Thank you for the post / nice read. I am very interested
in astronomy and the studies of impacts. I put no stock
in the prediction of Mr Rodriguez or any other religious
soothsayer that does not back impact predictions with
hard verifiable facts, backed by instruments, measurements
and repetitive results. You know ….. The Scientific Method.
A big fan of Carl Sagan and the Alvarez’s it is exciting
to see earth and astronomical sciences beginning to piece
together the complex interaction of earth, the Solar System
and deep space.
Given the relative newness of impact study I was particularly
intrigued by the dramatic events surrounding the 21 comet
fragment collisions that occurred on Jupiter in the 1990’s
As discovered by Ms Shoemaker and David Levy.
This event was an eye opener that seems to have soured
significant interest regarding impact ramifications not only
in the scientific community but politically and in the Dept. of
defense.
These are really interesting times considering the number
of spacefaring satellites that are currently deployed to
investigate asteroids and comets.
Which leads me to my main point that kind of ties into your
Rebuttal of the lunatic(s) making these end of mankind claims.
My personal research suggests the most serious threat
to earth from an impactor would be from a comet that
shakes loose from the “Orrt” cloud. It is my understanding
these comets, once they start falling inward to the sun, are
among the most difficult objects to detect and literally impossible
to predict.
Your comments regarding Orrt Cloud comets would be interesting
to read.
I will finish by saying that Astronomy is on the cusp of incredible
advances – I hope I live long enough to benefit from the data that
the James Webb will provide when launched in 2018 and the impressive
Array of earth based telescopes that are under construction or currently
in planning stages.
admin · September 1, 2015 at 10:08
Dear Jeff, thank you for your comments. My only response would be that I don’t agree that a “fresh” comet approaching from the Oort Cloud would be difficult to detect, if anything they might be easier as they would possess a lot more volatiles to form a coma and tail.
Ross · August 28, 2015 at 00:14
Hi, i hope nobody will judge me for what i am about to say but i’m a 22 year old male who suffers from chronic anxiety & a general anxiety disorder and ever since i heard about this whole “asteroid collision with earth” conspiracy i have been terrified, i had my anxiety & panic attacks under control for a while but this story has made all of those horrible feelings come back, i’m not saying i believe the conspiracy but in my head i keep thinking “what if it is going to happen?” how can you be so sure that the rumours are false and that nothing is going to happen?
admin · September 1, 2015 at 10:04
Dear Ross, I am sorry that this hoax has distressed you. If you read the article you will see that:
a) The original source is a preacher who claimed to see this happening in a vision. What he says is going to happen makes no sense on many levels.
b) The original fake prediction is being passed around the internet in YouTube videos etc by people who do not care about the truth. They’re only doing it for the money or to promote a religious or political agenda.
c) No asteroid of this size has been seen on a course that will collide with Earth.
Please relax, this prediction is a fake.
justin · August 27, 2015 at 22:58
Dear admin, just a hypothetical question… if an asteroid were to hit puerto rico the size efrain rodriguez quoted… how long would it be till it hit the east coast of the U.S?… Also, because technically ct is a sound and not directly part of the coast, would it even reach over here in southeastern ct?
admin · August 28, 2015 at 14:57
Dear Justin, the answer to your hypothetical question is threefold. An impact like the one made up by Rodriguez would have consequences around the world, it would be the most severe cataclysm experienced by the Earth since the impact at the end of the Cretaceous Period (although quite so bad). According this this site (link) Connecticut is 2675 km from Puerto Rico. If we imagine an asteroid hitting just off the coast of Puerto Rico, the tsunami in the ocean caused by it would travel at 970 km/h, so the waves in the ocean would reach Connecticut 2 hours 40min after the impact, the shock waves in the atmosphere travel at about 1190 km/h so would be felt in Connecticut about 2hours 18 mins after the impact. Fastest of all are the earth tremors, moving at 6km/s, they would shake Connecticut less that 7.5 minutes after the impact. I imagine the flash would be visible on impact.
Remember this isn’t going to happen!
JOANNA · August 27, 2015 at 21:17
I know NASA is tracking quite a few objects, we are projecting the paths of these objects on their current locations and speed over time. So far accurate, but what happens if one these objects for some reason has their path altered, which NASA will see and then recalculate for the correction. I was just trying to leave the door open for variables unseen. Your article is very good, like 2012 people can be moved by what they read and hear. I think sticking with the math, reality and facts that can change from day to day should make people relax. I would encourage everyone to get off the 2012 train (which by the way did not happen) and do some more research on their own, using accredited sources of information. Well done my friends.
James lee · August 27, 2015 at 00:30
Wow, I have managed to eat a huge bag of popcorn while reading all these comments. The best laugh I’ve had in years, im not too sure a asteroid killing half of them would be such a loss to our race, … The article in question was very good Collin thankyou for your hard work and effort
Meow · August 26, 2015 at 16:53
This was a good article. And while some of the comments make me a bit worried about people who wrote them, the admin has been enviably patient and polite answering.
Somehow I feel like most of the world end believers are from the US. Many people there don’t seem to trust their government, nor to have much idea about the outside world. (Like the whole idea about Nasa being able to cover up everything.) It also always baffles me how so many people seem to be afraid of whatever conspiracy, rogue planet or nonexistent meteorite, but at the same time not seeming to register or accept the existence of REAL threats like climate change or the importance of research – so that we might for example find potentially hazardous (real) meteorites. The idea about everything being possible and only a matter of opinion doesn’t really help.
It seems that waiting for the doomsday makes some people genuinely happy, I just wish they wouldn’t scare people.
Maurice · August 26, 2015 at 12:48
I think it us a coincidence. Cause Jehovah or Jesus would not go back on their word. Now calm down Josh. Read the bible and you will calm down. And I actually am scared of death cause it might hurt.

josh · August 26, 2015 at 01:04
What are your thoughts about the speech the French prime minister gave over a year ago about we have 500 hundred days till a climatic abyss? Kinda sounds like a warning to me. That 500 hundred days ends September 2015 that’s a pretty big coincidence Don’t you think?
admin · August 26, 2015 at 10:29
Dear Josh, I have addressed this many times, please have a look through these comments.
Maurice · August 26, 2015 at 00:07
To all you Christians out there. When Jesus said that an asteroid will come and destroy all sinful humanity. He also added that no one will know when it will happen. He even said that not even him self knows. So calm down guts the earth will probably be destroyed to make a new order. But whatever that guy is saying is a lie cause nobody knows either the day or the hour. Plus this guy has lied twice before. I cant belive he got me all worked up tbh. He needs to be arrested for this if the law permits it.
Eilidh · September 13, 2015 at 12:33
,Maurice. What makes you say that “Jesus said that an asteroid would come and destroy all sinful humanity?” Who told you this? People who profess to be Christians must read and study the Bible for themselves before making comments which could destroy its credibillity and people’s faith.. The misquotations and misrepresentations of Christianity here have been frightening. .No asteroId has been foretold but even if there were, people who really believe and trust in God should not be afraid. I’m a Born Again Christian who believes and studies the Bible. If it is misquoted and misinterpreted people can become afraid, get a distorted view of God and thebn dismiss the whole caboodle. That bothers me.
Admin is sensible, reasonable and knows his stuff. Don’t dismiss what he says either…but get your Christian facts right too.
Eilidh · September 13, 2015 at 13:10
P.S I forgot to say (in a reply to Maurice’s misinterpretation) that the Bible does say that “God does not give a spirit of fear but of love and a sound mind.”

I feel like they made it up but I am a little bit scared. Thank you

Dear Florien, the article you’ve linked to is a year old so it is out of date. Asteroid 2012 DA14 (which is also called 367943 Duende) mentioned in it is not going to hit Earth.
This bit
is simply nonsense, I presume the journalist didn’t understand what he was told. Please don’t worry about this story.
Tech guy · August 23, 2015 at 16:36
I really value all the logic here. These are a few points of worry for me. If world governments knew do you really think they would tell the mass population? Multiple Wal-Mart’s have been shut down due to plumbing problems here in the states on the west coast. Jade helm is a little unsettling. Adding up propaganda doesn’t work. But the truths can be unnerving. If the higher up Did know this is how they would do it. And no I don’t think it will happen. But facts can be scary however, things can also be coincidences. Thank you for your article.
admin · August 25, 2015 at 07:07
Dear Tech Guy,
Even you assume every single government in the world is made up of cynical, compassionless monsters, how would covering up a major disaster help their agenda? I cannot understand the reasoning behind this belief.

the US government is corrupt, i honestly think that they would save themselves before anything, if there was something heading to earth we would not be informed till its to late, and on another note, nasa is full of crap. they are humans, not Gods, they dont get everything correct but they also would not let anyone know about this, if the government told us there would be total chaos, so i dont think they would let us know anything. this is not just the governments planet, this my planet and your planet, we deserve to know and have every right to know anything and everything that happens to, out of, or on the planet. so i say screw the government, screw nasa, and screw all the self righteous power hungry people in this world that think they own it, is something’s coming im gonna be ready, if its true or not bc you cant trust anything the government says.
John · September 22, 2015 at 19:08
Exactly who do you believe this sinister “government” is. Are they not the people working for the country that make up the government? Are they not hundreds of thousands of citizens all over the country from federal employees all the way down to your local town clerk that are making up what you call “them”? People that have friends, parents, children, and other families? What makes you believe they are corrupt and don’t care about the rest of the population? Can you not see the trap you have been led into by special interests who are against the “government”… We the people are the government… there is no different sinister stand alone entity out there by that name….

I do not wish to elaborate any further but i do believe that some major event will take place this year (2015). Maybe we will be entering the age of aquarius as new ageists claim, or maybe Satan will be unleashed from his prison as the bible claims. As for the asteroid, who knows?

Okay, I am a huge worrier and I have read the article and the comments all the way down. I am here in Arizona (USA) and it’s nearly 2:30am my time, but I couldn’t sleep because some sick person on Facebook posted about the asteroid and these prophesies and I got really frightened. Thankfully, there are others like you out there who referred me to this page and finally I am feeling more at ease. Pretty much any “what if” scenario has been covered that I would be able to think of, plus some extras. I am so thankful to you, the author, for the grace and tact with which you confront some of the more fiery, fearmongering people on here. I am an extremely emotional person who appreciates logic and typically my boyfriend is the only one that I’ve found that can reassure me the way that you have. His father preaches the end times and I get to the point where I can honestly say that I feel suicidal hearing all of these prophesies. 2012 was really rough on me. I’m spiritual not religious, but whatever work you are doing here is definitely for the greater good and you are doing an amazing job of citing your information and providing people with the relief they need. I trust that you would tell the truth should there ever come a time that something, to your knowledge, is endangering life here on earth. Paul · August 19, 2015 at 07:11
I have a simple question for believers, and non-believers alike.
If God decides to make this happen, or for non believers,
What if nature does decide to throw a curve ball, what will you do?
Think about the mentioned details carefully and consider it point by point. A comet hit earth, disease spreads , ward chaos, and panic. There will he food shortage after a while people will raid and steal and kill, both to acquire and protect what they need and have. If you walk across a street you can die. You can simply drown while swimming or in a vehicle accident. My point is when it is your time it is your time. No matter what the government does or says or lack of both the former and the latter. Even if they have some sort of a protection program you are not included in. There is simply sometimes nothing you can do. Whether it is in the hands of God or nature we will die , there are selfish people just like there are kind people and all we can do is work for ourselves to love and respect others and wait and see what happens. Humanity is broken and if ever it is fixed it will be a long time.. Unless we all do fie. Then its how it has to be. I apologize if I seem cold or insensitive but this is the truth and I just want everyone to think about it. We all have mistakes and its our responsibility to work on it no matter what your religion culture or choices. Personally I choose Christ I believe, and see signs, but regardless I believe more so than my care for predictions. So I remain to see and die all the same regardless.
I hope you all read this and think about it.
admin · August 19, 2015 at 07:25

Why do you think this? Why wouldn’t people cooperate to help each other in this situation?

I feel a lot better knowing there is scientific evidence against the doomsday events.

I believe 100% of this article about we have nothing to worry about that this asteroid hitting earth. But I do want to say. I have read most of these comments about the article and I just amazes me how all of you are in debate with eachother about if this asteroid is really going to hit earth or not and that this is more or less judgement day or “doomsday,” here’s a thought; if you love and believe in our father Jesus Christ and except him into your hearts and souls then what are you so worried about???? If you are this scared of what is or isn’t going to happen then maybe you should sit down and ask Jesus Christ into your heaet and soul and ask for forgiveness.
I know that this was a little off subject; but I am so amazed as to how so many people are feeding off lies instead of the truth or excepting Jesus into their lives.
Thanks WWJD13

Is it possible for an asteroid that is heading towards earth to hide behind the sun long enough to where we would never be able to spot it until impact? Not necessarily this made up asteroid but just generally speaking
admin · August 18, 2015 at 07:32
Dear Peter, to astronomers the idea of an asteroid (or comet or planet) hiding behind the Sun does not make any sense. The Earth is moving around the Sun so objects “hiding” behind the Sun would come into our view when the Earth’s position changed, an object could be obscured by the Sun by for a short time but not for months at a stretch.

admin · August 17, 2015 at 10:11
Dear CK,
Please do not worry, there are asteroids and comets moving around through space all the time. Space is enormous and the chances of an asteroid or comet hitting Earth is very low. No comets or asteroids are currently known to be on orbits which will ever cause them to collide with Earth.
An object like this would be spotted by amateur astronomers. Hundreds of asteroids and comets are discovered by amateurs with their personal telescope. Obviously professional astronomers around the world discover asteroids too, for example numerous asteroids have been discovered by astronomers based at Armagh Observatory (our sister organisation). Governments do not control astronomy and could not cover up discoveries of this importance.
I am a trained scientist (a physicist) and an amateur astronomer (I am not paid to research the sky but I do so in my spare time, I also show members of the public what is in the sky as part of my job) so I am aware of what is in the sky. I cannot observe something that does not exist (like this asteroid).
Eclipses of the Moon cannot harm anyone. “Blood moon” is a foolish name made in the past few years. We hope to have an article about this shortly.
We cannot hear sounds from objects in space.
I hope I have helped I you.

#1 And, another reason why this is joke, is because the date is always memorable; its in your mind and its a frequent thing.
#2 By making it later in the month as well gives you thinking time on what’s going to happen in the next few weeks. If they said 1st September, I wouldn’t be so worried, because in that scenario it would be all over and done with. Its just their grand scheme of making us wait longer and be scared. (Until their next date).
Remember 2012, they said that was all confirmed, but did it come true? No.
Arron · August 15, 2015 at 02:50
I want to believe that nothing will happen. However, the French foriegn minister standing alongside John Kerry said we would have 500 days to avoid CLIMATE CHAOS here on Earth, and prevent the planet from entering a “climatic abyss.”
He said this in front of the world press. Google it.
The announcement was made on May 14, 2014 – at the White House.
Those 500 days end on September 23-24, 2015.
The Minister’s choice of language and the use of the word “CHAOS” indicates to me that they know something big is coming. What that is I have no idea.
But I get the impression they’ve known about it for a very long time.
admin · August 17, 2015 at 08:48
Dear Arron, we have known that human activities are changing the Earth climate, and this could have unpredictable and drastic consequences, for decades. So you are correct that something big is coming and we have known about it for a long time. The “five hundred days” marks how long it was going to be until the UN conference on climate change.
In your comment you seem to be saying two different and contradictory things (which I’ll paraphrase) :
World governments are covering up a major disaster which is coming this year.
and
The French foreign minister with US Secretary of State gave a press conference at the White House warning that there would be a major disaster this year.
Surely you must see that these cannot both be true.
Arron · August 18, 2015 at 00:56
Admin,
Whilst I get your point about the seemingly contradictory nature of my previous comment, I also feel inclined to point out that it is entirely plausible that the French foreign minister could, with US Secretary of State alongside, be used to slowly leak an “alert” to the general populous about a future calamity – without causing mass hysteria.
POTUS or Pope Francis making an announcement of this magnitude – especially in front of the world press – would likely be considered “alarmist” and represent immediate cause for concern.
Using government officials that are still important in the eyes of the administration, yet don’t necessarily represent public authority figures of the highest level or importance to the public at large, could be considered a clever play by those with knowledge of this theorised “event” (whatever it may involve, or that may arise from it) to roll this information to the public, gradually, and under the radar.
In this instance I can see where you might interpret what I said as contradictory. Yet, my point was this. The French minister unceremoniously declaring “We have 500 days to avoid Climate Chaos” before it enters an “abyss,” and those government officials sharing more in-depth detail of the relating potential event(s) ahead that may have warranted announcement of that nature with the public – are two entirely different things.
It’s a stretch – I’ll admit that much. Yet, with my eyes at least, the above has and always will be possible.
That said, I am also not totally naive – and I therefore accept that there always exists the likely explanation that the whole “September 2015” conspiracy crescendo that we find ourselves in now, is either:
1. […] a planned distraction from another event, such as the introduction of The 2030 Agenda by the UN – a public rebranding of the once called “Agenda 21” sustainable development plan, reportedly set to take place on September 23.
2. Public preparation for the beginning of Wartime – with the conspiracy train now highlighting and identified these implied “dates” of potential calamity in music, movies, TV shows and publications that make up popular culture, the September 2015 conspiracy continues to attract an increasing audience.
3. Conspiracy talk with no actual evidential foundation
I am yet to determine which of the three the September 2015 conspiracy falls into, and while your above analysis of the information available is commendable, it only really adds to the smog that currently surrounds this ever-growing conspiracy.
Just over a month to wait before we find out.
admin · August 18, 2015 at 07:43
Dear Arron, it sounds to me that although you see that there is nothing to worry about, you are determined to find something to worry about anyway. If that is how you choose to live your life that is fine, I wish you every happiness.

admin · August 17, 2015 at 10:17
Dear Christian, that article is annoying and unhelpful, but if you read it, you’ll see the journalist is dismissive of this whole story and has a sarcastic tone throughout. She is not saying that this is going to happen, she’s saying some people say that this going to happen. Please not not worry, this asteroid does not exist.
Enrico · September 1, 2015 at 15:44
Dear Christian,
I didn’t have to read the article or even follow the link (though I still did)… don’t you think the hint is in the title and the URL address? “Giant asteroid is going to wipe out everyone very soon again”?
EZ · August 14, 2015 at 18:00
I was seeing the video’s of this disaster and was pretty certain it was BS, because an impact of this magnitude would be well known by astronomers for many years in advance, and I don’t see no governments covering it up, I wouldn’t put it past them, but It’s NOT possible because they couldn’t hush up the entire global community of Astronomers & Scientists. I got to this article with a few short clicks to see what the REAL truth of the matter is. Thanks for the well written article, and it’s obvious that part of your motivation for writing it was to give knowledge “FACTS” and piece of mind to those worried and un-sure, and that is very much appreciated. It’s obvious by several of the comments above a few crack heads have stopped by to see you, lol Geeeez!!!! “Un-Believable. Take Care and thanks again……….
HB · August 14, 2015 at 16:00
Yes, I agree that these doomsday people never stop. For example, just nearly a week a ago a woman named Linda Kirby received a message from someone who’s dad worked at Homeland Security confirming it, and, it was obvious she was religious. She said it was coming from behind the sun and impossible to detect. Somehow in my gut feeling, they haven’t covered up their lie very well, because in reality, there is no asteroid and the only way to make it believable is them saying that you can’t see it, ”its impossible to detect”. Its an obvious hoax indeed.
Great post by the way. 🙂
P · August 14, 2015 at 00:09
I heard about this early in the year and tried to forget it as quickly as possible. But now with the supposed date(s) quickly approaching I’ve been more than a little anxious. Losing sleep, no appetite, etc. This did a lot to calm my nerves temporarily, so I’d like to thank you for that. But recently I read a statement, supposedly the director of NASA saying something along the lines of, “when there is an impact there will be no warning.” I don’t have a source to cite on that, I didn’t look too far for one because that kind of stuff scares me too much. I was wondering, real or not, is there any validity to that kind of statement? I scarcely believe anyone who says they’ve received the “word of God” but there are a lot of suspicious events surrounding these dates. All I’d like to do is have a relaxing vacation in September and a pleasant October following. Thanks again.
admin · August 14, 2015 at 07:34
Dear P, I searched for a video using the expression “when there is an impact there will be no warning.” I found one with a short clip of David Morrison (link) using those words. I would note that this is an old interview, possibly twenty years old, as Morrison looks much younger in it than he does now. This would fit as twenty years ago Morrison was lobbying for projects to survey the sky for potentially hazardous near Earth asteroids. Now several such searches are going on and there is no chance of a major impact out of the blue. You can read an up to date article on the asteroid impact hazard at this link or watch him discuss this in an interview at this link.
I hope you have a great vacation in September and October!

Dear Admin,
Thank you for posting this piece. It is nice to know that amongst the chaos of wild theories and rumours, there are people willing to clear up misconceptions and the scaremongering around asteroids. However, I think you are wasting your time by responding to the people in this comment section – they will believe what they want to believe, and no matter how much logic and evidence is placed before them, they will continue to push their baseless theories.

I had thought in reading down through the comments section I would see like minded people who are interested in astronomy, unfortunately I see more trolls than anything. I agree with Anon who posted on August 13, 2015 that unfortunately some people do not wish to be educated, I believe they like the lies and the scaremongering. Thank you for keeing us informed.

Commits are fragment of asteroids, And there are tons of them going to shower on us to night for a month, Normally related to a larger one behind! So is there something going a miss here?
Why these meteors are not reported sooner and made public , when they are only traveling as fast as a bullet?
admin · August 12, 2015 at 14:06
Dear Quest, the Perseid Meteor shower happens every single year at this time, it is nothing new, secret or unexpected! We have covered it many times on this site. You can see me talking about the Perseids in 2010 at this link (note the meteorite in the video is nothing to do with the Perseid Shower, the TV people asked me to bring it along). There is also a good video explaining why this happens at the BBC (link). The Perseids’ parent body, Comet Swift-Tuttle was last in the Inner Solar System in 1992, it’s not going to return until 2126.
By the way, the tiny particles of rock making up the meteor shower are moving much faster than a bullet but burn up about 100km (62 miles above the Earth). Comets are not fragments of asteroids (but some asteroids may be the remains of dead comets).

Rico · August 11, 2015 at 13:11
Thanks for the feedback… I also wanted to ask about an apparent meteorite that hit Iran can you confirm? It was said to hit Iran on 7/31/15. It wasn’t on any news channels but I’ve had multiple people tell me that it happened. If it is confirmed is like to know why we didn’t hear about this?
admin · August 11, 2015 at 13:36
Dear Rico, I have already answered this elsewhere in these comments, so I’m repeating myself. You have not heard of this because it’s a really trivial event. It looks like a bright meteor was observed on 30 July but I see nothing believable to say it caused damage or causalities or indeed even reached the ground as a meteorite. It certainly was not comparable to the Chelynabinsk event. The only report of this that seems in any way reliable is at this link (note the image is of the Canadian meteor of September 2009, not the Iranian one). That story says “pieces of rock have hit areas” , but I’m sceptical of that. Very few meteors reach the ground as meteorites. Every time a meteor is reported on our local media, people call us saying they have found pieces of it. In nearly ten years I can say that sadly not one has turned out to be a real meteorite!
There is an Iranian TV report on this event at this link but if you do not understand Farsi it may not help much. They show greyish rocks but these do not look like meteorites to me.

Asteroid 2002mn was never seen coming, until it flew right by us….. I’m sorry but predictions could be wrong but also can science…. The sun was blocking the telescope from seeing it… I’d like to know what measures have been taken since then to detect these asteroids?
admin · August 11, 2015 at 08:45
Dear Rico, asteroid 2002MN was only a few tens of metres across (definitely less than a hundred metres wide). Objects this size are hard to detect because of their size (they reflect less sunlight). An object like 2002MN would cause a major disaster if it fell on a populated area but it would not be the global catastrophe of this phoney prediction. This demands an asteroid several kilometres across, one this size would have been detected by now.
Note too that 2002MN was 120 thousand km away at its closest!

The only website I know of that is set up to deny fake stories of asteroid impacts is cosmophobia.org (link). Unfortunately it does not seem to have been updated to cover this false prediction.
For money probably. The websites promoting this know that frightening stories attract readers to their sites, this means the websites get more advertising revenue.

No, they are camera artifacts (such as lens flares), images of real objects but deliberately misidentified or fakes. There is no “rogue star” in our sky.

One more: When is this planet suposed to come and start affecting us or is it already affecting with the weird weather and extra volcanic activity we are experienced currently? Thx
admin · August 11, 2015 at 06:41
I do not believe we are experiencing extra volcanic activity, can you supply a citation for this?
The Earth’s climate is changing due to human activities.
There is no other planet effecting Earth.

admin · August 11, 2015 at 08:29
Dear James, again there is no answer to this as the planet which concerns you does not exist.
jason Burns · August 11, 2015 at 15:19
Dear Admin. These rather sad people who believe in ‘rogue’ planets will never be convinced that they don’t exist. Most believers are of the opinion that NASA and world governments are holding back such information for fear of panic ensuing. There is an old saying…which you will be well aware of…’It’s hard to prove a negative.’ And that is exactly what the problem is. I (for my sins) enjoy checking out You Tube for all this stuff and when I read the comments section it astonishes me how many people seem to thrive on the idea of the ‘End Times.’ In fact they seem to positively RELISH the idea of ‘Rapture/Apocalyptic events/return of Jesus etc etc. Woe betide you if you suggest that it won’t happen. Christians in particular seem to be anything BUT Christians in their response. I know…I’ve been on the end of it and I’M a Christian.I’m very old…yes really…Jason is a name i use on emails…but I’m coming to the conclusion that young people ( Teens/20s/30s etc) are so scared of what life has to offer that they take succour in the idea of a better life on the ‘Other Side.’ How sad is THAT? As for the religious fruitcakes…and there are way more than I could ever have thought of…when you read their incoherent ramblings (on here and elsewhere) I despair for the good people in this life doing the best they can without recourse to ‘fire and brimstone.’ remember Harold Camping? Go to Google and key in a search with the following words…’COGNITIVE DISSONANCE and HAROLD CAMPING.’ Go to the magazine ‘Psychology Today’ and read the short article. It explains a lot about people like our friend the ‘Rev’ and details in full the reason why people come back again and again as a ‘follower’ to these people even though the predictions fail time after time. It’s a recognised condition…fascinating to see just how many people have it…though of course they don’t even KNOW they have it. Ho Hum…
James Cusato · August 11, 2015 at 00:14
Is there a difference between planet Nibiru and Planet X? and how are they going to affect our planet with the gravitational pull when they get close enough to our solar system? wasn’t Noah the last guy to feel the effects of this rogue dwarf binary star? lot of garbage around this planet and isn’t there a lot of garbage around this planet that may affect the earth like fire raining from the sky? Didn’t they nickname this planet” the destroyer” for what it does when it comes in our univeres gravitational pull. doesn’t it pull on the tectonic plates and even flip he poles? Hasn’t NASA known about this road dwarf star for many decades? And doesn’t this planet have a lot to do with making the continental drift easier When it warps the earth. I appreciate your professional insight thank you.Jim c.
admin · August 11, 2015 at 09:18
Dear James,
Nibiru and Planet X (in the sense that you are using it) do not exist. As they do not exist it is pointless speculating about their influence in the past or future.
You’re right that there is a lot of human made debris in orbit and bits are falling back into the atmosphere all the time. However most of these fragments are the size of a bottletop or smaller. They pose no risk to human life on Earth.
I’m sorry but all of this is wrong.
No, continental drift is fairly well understood and convectional currents in the Earth’s mantle seem sufficient to move the plates about without calling on the gravitational influence of imaginary planets.
I am sorry if I sound brutal in my answers to your questions, but I think much of what you believe you have learned about the Solar System is incorrect. May I recommend a couple of books which inform rather than mislead you. Reading these will teach you not only what we know about the Solar System but also how we know it. Then you will see how the idea of wandering planets causing disasters to human is so foolish.
The Planets (edited by Maggie Aderin-Pocock, ISBN: 9781409353058) is an excellent beginner’s book.
An Introduction to the Solar System (by David A. Rothery, Neil McBride and Iain Gilmour, ISBN-10: 1107600928) is an undergraduate level textbook.
I hope this has helped you.

Hi All. God uses prophets all over the world to give us messages. Not to scare us, just a call to repentance and for us to change our ways. Even if an asteroid was to hit, it will never be the end of the world, just the beginning of Sorrows and birth pains as stated in revelations.
God wants all of us, and is giving us more and more time to return to him. All his faithful children will be saved. It’s a joyful time if you believe, as the second coming is near.
All the conditions are in place, we even have our last pope at the helm.

admin · August 10, 2015 at 07:50
Dear Michael, I am sorry to hear that you are frightened, but I know this prediction of an asteroid impact is fake. You have nothing to be afraid of!
Why do you believe an anonymous person in a video saying another un-named person (who may not even be real) said something? This seems like just silly gossip to me!
I’m sorry, but to astronomers this does not make any sense. The Earth is moving around the Sun so objects can’t “hide” behind the Sun, an object could be obscured by the Sun by for a short time but not for months at a stretch.
This is outside my field of knowledge, but this Jade Helm affair seems a really minor event, my understanding is that less than 2000 troops are involved. Compare this to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts which involved at least 10 000 National Guard troops, more than a dozen naval vessels and scores of aircraft.
Sheldon · August 9, 2015 at 19:18
Dear readers,
Here are some FACTS : there have been a number of so called ELE and/or prophecy predictions within the last two decades…
Another FACT : None of them have occured – I know this cause I’m writing this post.
Religion tells us how to go to heaven and not how the heavens go, that is the job of Science and credible sources have factually confirmed no such event will occur in September 2015.
Until any living human being can provide absolute factual information of such an event, all views are based on assumptions, beliefs and thoughts.

I was wondering if it’s possible why the national guard is mobilized in Texas and I personally saw an entire train full if different UN looking vehicles(i’m a veteran and familiar with them) heading north through Western North Carolina(USA) also there is alot of wind about large bunkers being stockpiled(hear say so far), any thoughts or info on these?
admin · August 10, 2015 at 08:12
Dear Charlie, thanks for your questions. As an astronomy educator based in Northern Ireland, I cannot spend a lot of time researching US current affairs, I hope you understand this.
Are you sure that this is true? If it is, surely this must be a big deal, with National Guard personal being called from their homes and jobs, would this not be noticed? The Texas National Guard has a website at this link. Could you contact them and ask if this is true yourself?
That sounds fascinating, may I ask how you know they were UN vehicles? Did they have UN markings?
I am sorry but I don’t know about that. However in 2011 people were telling me that bunkers were being prepared and martial law was going to be implemented because Comet Elenin was going to cause destruction on Earth. This of course never happened. In 2013 people were telling bunkers and mass graves were being prepared and there was going to be a military takeover in the US because Comet ISON was going to cause destruction on Earth. This of course never happened either.
I have learned that there are people who enjoy alarming other people by spreading scary stories, a fact which saddens me.

(Edited for language-ADMIN)
admin · August 10, 2015 at 08:27
Dear James, once again, I have to ask which government would do this? There are nearly 200 countries in the world, how could every single one of them cover up so major an event?
Why would covering up as asteroid impact help anyone? It actually sounds completely counterproductive. Back in 1940, the UK government knew the Germans were going to launch bombing raids on UK cities, but there was no concealing of this alarming fact, instead people were warned what to do, how to shelter etc. That seems a much more sensible approach.
farawaysis · August 8, 2015 at 16:05
If it’s not true, please explain this….. The asteroid/comet CAN BE FOUND AT NASA. It is a 6 on the torino scale. Six means Threatening, “A close encounter by a large object posing a serious but still uncertain threat of a global catastrophe. Critical attention by astronomers is needed to determine conclusively whether or not a collision will occur. If the encounter is less than three decades away, governmental contingency planning may be warranted. ”
admin · August 10, 2015 at 07:27
Dear Farawaysis, thank you for your comment which I must respond to. 2012 TT5 is not rated at 6 on the Torino scale. If you look at the JPL Small-Body Database Browser pages for 2012 TT5 you will see that in September 2015 2012 TT5 will come to about 0.055 au (1au=93 million miles or 150 million km) of Earth, so it is going to miss Earth by 5 million miles!
I have removed the link to your website as I regard it as potentially alarmist and misleading.

Hey guys we really have to thank the Admin here for taking so much time to answer everyones questions. My brother in law is a seasoned astronomer in New Jersey. He says that an object that size would be easily visible to not thousands but tens of thousands of amateur astronomers around the world. The media could be controlled into hiding the story but only in one or a few countries. The world is very large and eventually other countries media outlets would have started reporting on this almost a year ago. Nothing is coming, everything is fine.
My younger brother was very scared when he came to me with this and we read the articles together. The admin is right, once he discussed it and we both saw that these are ‘radical’ claims made by religious prophets then we both got a good laugh. Christmas will come and you will be sipping wine by the fire place thinking to yourself… oh my lord… how much time did I waste to anxiety and fear.
Peter · August 7, 2015 at 17:39
Hi
I saw this article and it really freaked me out. Please check it out if you have time and tell me if there is anything true in it?

Dear Peter, no, this article you have linked to is nonsensical rumours. Do not take it seriously!
Adrian · August 7, 2015 at 17:37
Dear admin,
Is it true that a meteor hit Iran last week causing damage?
admin · August 10, 2015 at 09:26
Dear Adrian, it looks like a bright meteor was observed on 30 July but I see nothing believable to say it caused damage.
There is an Iranian TV report on this at this link but if you do not understand Farsi it may not help much. They show greyish rocks but these do not look like meteorites to me.
Lene · September 19, 2015 at 11:36
I read a meteor was seen around Asia but caused no apparent damage.
I believe if a large meteor was approaching earth. We would not be told about it.
Example: latest earthquake in chile- no warning expect after a stunami warning.
Am sure the experts knew it was going to happen.
DONT TRUST GOVERNMENTS OR MEDIA
We the people are not important to them..
John · September 22, 2015 at 18:02
Lene,
Stop and think for a minute about who the government and the media is…. do you believe they are some uncaring entity totally disengaged from the people? There are millions of people, most of them with children and grand children all around the world that work for the “government” and the media and they are in fact what you are consider the government and media… you really believe they don’t care about their friends, their children and their families? Really?

thank you so much for that it help me so much this guy need to stop scary people. nasa has nothing to do with it they got a letter from this guy.
as what read if something was that big we would see it by now am i right and it would be all over the world by now.
Craig · August 6, 2015 at 17:43
Am almost 30 year old not sure why but am sceard for the first time in all this I have a baby on the way why are people making all this stuff up am in the UK I am also having sleepless nights in the paper (daily mail) it seid nasa was forced to saying nothing of the sorts was going to happen I love my life I love my family I have also done some very silly unforgettable things because of this kind regards Craig
admin · August 7, 2015 at 07:20
Dear Craig, I am very sorry to hear that this fake story has made you anxious. The terrible Daily Mail story you are referring to says in its headline
meaning NASA had to comment on this non-story because public interest was so strong.
I live on the same planet as you, I am a father (congratulations on your baby!), and I am not worried at all about an asteroid disaster!
If you are still really concerned about this untrue story, please remember that all you need to do is talk it over with other people, family, friends, even your GP. Tell them what you’re worried about, show them this article and discuss it with them. I’m sure this will help you see there is nothing to worry about.
craig · August 7, 2015 at 19:16
Hi thanks admin for you fast response it seems so be all the time with new dates of the end of the world i just seen one on Google for end of world 2016 how can it end 2 times the people that scare munger should be delt with to see how they like it the last few ones did not bother me but the new one did am unsure as to why may be because its so close its made me feel sick worried i never get like this i think because there is loads of links in Google on it does not help kind regards
admin · August 10, 2015 at 08:42
Dear Craig, I am sorry that you are still concerned. There are no predicted astronomical events threatening life on Earth, so ignore scaremongering stories saying that there is, because they are not true. I am not worried about the end of the world at all!
All I can say is that you are not alone, there will be people around you who you could talk to about your concerns and help show there is nothing to worry about. Also I am not worried about the end of the world because I have studied space and astronomy for a long time. Maybe looking into to it would help you see how there is nothing to worry about. Perhaps you could join your local astronomy club and talk to the members or even take a course in astronomy at a college? Learning about astronomy could help prove to you that the sky is full of amazing things and not things to be anxious about!

sorry to keep asking is that site a lie please tell me the true i know some sides are a lie is that one of them
admin · August 6, 2015 at 09:35
Dear M, nowhere on that site does it say that NASA confirmed that an asteroid is going to hit the Earth. To quote it:
However despite this, the story goes to repeat the nonsensical prediction and add in even more foolish material about CERN etc, it is completely sensationalised and clearly is trying to scare its readers. If you would like more truthful news about space and astronomy I would suggest you start with these links:

thank you so much for this i got a kid on the way and i waa scared why did nasa saying would hit use but a month ago they said it was going to miss. was it becaue of this guy.
admin · August 6, 2015 at 07:17
Dear M, no one from NASA has ever said an object was going to hit Earth in September. Can you send me a link to where you read this?
JB · August 6, 2015 at 04:47
An article I read stated that Rodriguez was a “SELF PROCLAIMED” prophet. That right there should tell you that this probably isn’t true… Rodriguez’s other prophecies have not occurred when he said they would, so we can conclude that he is a false prophet and need not to be trusted. BUT I think something will happen though in September because of the alignments of the four blood moons with the Jewish calendar, I just don’t think it’ll be an asteroid…
(You have made some interesting points and I have left them intact, but I have substantially edited the rest of your comments – ADMIN)
admin · August 6, 2015 at 09:52
Dear JB, the so-called “blood moons” are of no significance. We have understood how and when lunar eclipses occur for thousands of years. To believe the gods control the movements of the Earth and Moon is worse than medieval superstition.
Christian isler · August 6, 2015 at 02:27
Iam very scared about this hitting earth. I discovered this in early June and ever since then I’ve haven’t been normal with myself. Is there any siding of the asteroid coming? Can you please give me a clear explanation of it not hitting in September.
admin · August 6, 2015 at 09:23
Dear Christian, I am sorry to hear that you are scared. I can only reassure you that there is no gigantic asteroid going to hit Earth in the near future. I hope you can read my article again and see that one man said this will happen because he was shown a vision. To me this sounds like he made this story up. No astronomer in the world agrees with him.
Christian idler · August 7, 2015 at 00:34
Just to make it clear this is made up foolishness.
NotYourFriend · August 12, 2015 at 16:34
Except for Brian Cox who said there is an asteroid coming for us and it has our names on it, but what do I know right?
admin · August 12, 2015 at 21:37
Dear NotYourFriend, I know Cox has discussed asteroid impacts, but are you saying that he has said this September 2015 impact is going to happen? If so, I’ll be grateful for a source.
codybirthday · September 6, 2015 at 18:49
are you srs. Do you find it cool to scare ppl.
Temo · August 5, 2015 at 23:32
A nicely written piece, regardless of being right or wrong It has set my mind at ease for the moment. Your explanation on the 500 days isnt satisfactory though he clearly says the number 500 “one does not simply conjure this figure up out of nowhere and as mentioned in other comments this leads us to the 24th of september. September is also the end of the tetrad which usuallt coincides with some sort of event/s. Science is still too grasp that some things remain outside of mans ability to predict also science is “controlled by the government in the U.K and U.S and the leaders of these powerful countries are religious… and in my experience science and religion dont mix. astrology and religion however are compatible (as is astrology and science), look at the ancients they used astrology long ago to predict events look at the sumerian tablet that shows an extra planet in the solar system! Is that fake, i dont think so. Or the mayan calendar still THE original now the Sumerians and Mayans didnt have science but what did they have.. astrology. Finally food for thought ” It is easier to fool someone than to convince one they have been fooled”.
admin · August 6, 2015 at 10:16
Dear Temo, thank for your kind words but I am afraid I must disagree with much of the rest of your comments.
The French minister is clearly talking about his country’s hosting of the conference and using “500 days” as it sounds more dramatic than “550 days”, if you chose to make yourself believe this is some sort of coded warning I cannot help you.
Please provide proof for this claim.
Astrology cannot be proven by science, I would be certain that it is superstitious nonsense!
Tim · August 5, 2015 at 08:47
And you all believe NASA? I do not really care either way, however just a question.. You all trust the American Government?
admin · August 5, 2015 at 09:15
Dear Tim, I have no doubt that governments sometimes misinform when it suits their interests (so also do private companies, religious organisations and individuals). But do you believe the people spreading this hoax?
I’m happy to say that I actually see NASA as one of the most trustworthy US government institutions as it freely publishes its data which can be scrutinised by anyone.
By the way, as I have said so many times NASA is not the only source of astronomical information in the world. The global community of professional and amateur astronomers is much larger than NASA.
Jonathan Blankley · August 5, 2015 at 08:26
Sometimes I really get depressed by the constant excretion of religious rubbish designed to invoke fear in people. The earth is not 6000 years old, and we are not all descended from 2 humans put into a garden by an all powerful creator.
No asteroid is coming to kill us (yet). If one of sufficient size to do global damage was on the way, we (the worldwide astronomical community) would see it.
The point of Rosetta (and other similar missions) is not to covertly steer asteroids or comets away, but to discover more about our true origin. Knowing what these asteroids and comets are made of would of course help in developing deflection technologies, but that is simply a bonus. To understand our place in the Cosmos is the goal.
Ex Astris Scientia.
Yasir Tahir · August 5, 2015 at 05:11
Thank you! I was really scared about this stuff I even told my mum and dad about this and they took it serious but today I just looked at this article and I was comfortable but one last thing the asteroid will not hit but could you send me a diagram of this plz
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!???
(Slight edit for language- ADMIN)
admin · August 5, 2015 at 07:38
Dear Yasir, I am glad I have reassured you. The point of the article is that no asteroid is coming to hit Earth in September, so I can’t show you any diagram of it. In the next few days we are adding an article describing how to use the JPL Small-Body Database to locate information on particular asteroids, you might find that helpful.
NotYourFriend · August 12, 2015 at 16:31

Hi admin i am very scared of this doomsday stuff if there was a asteroid coming witch is 2 miles long would your telescobe see it coming.do you completly rule it out so i can start to relex thank you

Dear Michael, yes, absolutely. A 2 mile across object so close would have been seen by now.

Dear RJ, I have addressed this many times, please have a look through these comments.
Gábor Knisch · August 3, 2015 at 16:59
Dear Admin,
I am writing to you from Hungary. You may get news from here once in a blue moon.
As for your little “study” on total impossibility of a forthcoming asteroid hitting Puerto Rico and the whole World at the end of September, I fully agree with you and would bet
the boots of that American prophet that n o t h i n g will happen in September in
Puerto Rico!
But I would now like to deal with a different aspect of this whole thing: this
prophet or preacher has been taking a big risk, a huge one. The whole World
will be laughing at him when the big day is coming and nothing happens!
I guess noone will accept any silly explanation by him at the end of September.
So I simply fail to understand why this funny man predicts “events” which
will turn out totally stupid and absurd in the foreseeable future!
What could be his motivation? Why does he do it?? What will he say then?
admin · August 4, 2015 at 07:45
Dear Gábor, thank you for your comments. Not being a psychologist I cannot understand the motivation for making a false prediction. It might be an interesting research project! There is an interesting list of false predictions of disaster at Wikipedia (link).
I believe some people enjoy having the ability to frighten other people as doing this seems to give them a feeling of power and authority. Stranger to me are the people who want to be frightened, there are definitely people who grow angry if I tell them that there is not going to be a catastrophe.
In this case the preacher who made the prediction is not stating a specific date (the September 2015 date is promoted by his followers and conspiracy theorists). This will allow him to continue claiming this disaster will happen as long as it suits his purposes to do so.
MMB · August 20, 2015 at 08:14
Thank you for attempting to explain this nonsense. It was really scaring me!
admin · August 20, 2015 at 08:21
You’re welcome!
Jason Burns · August 9, 2015 at 12:13
Hi Gabor. Trust me on this…the ‘Rev’ will simply post MORE predictions when this one goes AWOL. He will tear this one up and forget it ever existed. Then…hey presto…another one from him will appear probably saying…’Sorry my followers…slight miscalculation on the asteroid impact in September but hey…my NEW calculation shows an asteroid even bigger than the September one and this is due on…(fill in your own date here) They all do it. You Tube is full of them. They have no shame at all. Jason.
